wacky day select collage

This year’s Spirit Week has been the best so far! Our Middle School and High School students showed tremendous school spirit by participating in this event. Monday was “Flashback Day”. Students were able to dress up in clothing from a different era. We had students represent the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, and earlier periods. This was absolutely the best way to kick off a fun-filled week. Tuesday we had “Multiplicity Day.” Students were able to dress alike as twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. We even had a pair of students dressed as the Super Mario Brothers! On Wednesday we had “Wacky Hair, Feet and Wear Day”. Students dressed up in the most wackiest outfits they could find! Some walked in with colored wigs, others in oversized glasses,  mismatched clothing, etc. Thursday was our “Pep Rally Day” a day we supported our athletic teams by representing our school colors. Friday we wrapped up the week’s festivities with a “Formal Day” in which students dressed to nines in suits, tuxedos, prom dresses. One of our students even wore a wedding dress! Our students showed tremendous school spirit and we look forward to making more great memories at Evangel Christian School in this upcoming school year.

Beyond the Calling

Beyond the Calling, a hip-hop group that was actually formed at Evangel Christian School over two years ago, ministered at our High School Chapel.  Melanie Chong and Luis Alers are alumni and Joaquin Pardo and Ryan Diaz are in 12th grade at ECS. This group has written several songs such as, “Ain’t Ashamed,”  “Ain’t My Home,” “Spiritual Love” and “Slave to Righteousness”.

Beyond the Calling’s purpose and mission is to get the Message out to all – through the Word and Music. They feel that there are two callings. The one that God has for His children as well as the calling the World offers. They feel they need to live beyond the calling of the world, hence the name of their group and the focus of their ministry.

God really used this group to minister to our students and to challenge them to live above the world.

Beyond The Calling is scheduled to release their debut album Spring 2010.

Literacy Day/Crazy Hair and Hat Day

Elementary Literacy Day 014

This year we decided to combine two events to create one incredible, exciting fun filled day for our Elementary School students on Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Our Fellowship Hall was transformed into a wacky hair salon called  —– Hairy Situations. Teachers had to confirm their appointment with Tanya, one of the salon stylists, who was working the front desk. She welcomed in all our students who came in to salon. Many of the students and teachers walked in to the salon with crazy hair or hats. For those who didn’t have  a hat, we provide hats for them.

We played music videos and sang along to some popular Veggie Tale tunes.  After a fun time of singing, students were treated to books about hair or hats. After story time, the students watched some of our High School students act out a skit based on a Bible character named Samson. (Did you know the source of Samson’s strength was his hair!) During this fun time for students, teachers and aides were getting their hair done at the salon by a wacky hairstylist.

We wanted students to not only have fun, but to learn and get excited about reading!

Many students and teachers said this was the best Literacy Day ever!

Please check out our gallery on the school’s website to see some great pictures!

The Rose Processional was absolutely the most beautiful part of the ceremony. Graduates walked down the carrying roses and met their mothers in the front of the sanctuary. They presented the roses to their mothers and took their place on the platform. Our graduates sang two songs and Pastor Andy shared an inspiring word with them. We are excited to have these graduates “moving up” to Middle School. What a fabulous day and we are so very proud of all of our students.
