On Sunday, May 3, 2009, the congregation of Evangel Church was treated to a spectacular display of talent! Evangel Christian School’s littlest lambs, from Pre-K3 through 5th grade, sang, danced, read scripture, and gave awesome testimonies for the glory of God.
Featured in the annual Elementary Spring Show were the Junior Praise Dancers who performed to “Holy Spirit, Rain Down” and the Junior Chorus singing “He Knows My Name.” The Junior Drama Team gave a hilarious account of “The Eight Dwarf”–a mini-play featuring the character, Forgetful, who although he forgot many things, God never forgot him! Forgetful, and the audience, learned that he was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)!
The grand finale featured the Junior Chorus and Praise Dancers coming together in “Firm Foundation”.
Teachers and students alike worked hard to make this production possible and it sure was worth all the hard work! Check out our school’s picture gallery to see the performers in action!

Our elementary school had its first “Literacy Day: Tales by the Campfire” event. Our fellowship hall was transformed into a campground with stars and a moon dangling from the ceiling, six-foot forest trees, a sleeping tent, and a wonderful faux campfire, which the kids were really excited about. Each class was able to gather around the “fire”, snuggle in their blankets and hold tight to their teddy bears as they were read a series of children’s books by some of our staff and student leaders.
Each class was not only treated to stories by the campfire, but our helpful high school students performed two musicals inspired by two classic children’s books, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Three Little Pigs. This was the highlight for most of the little ones, who especially loved the big bad wolf (he was a silly, not scary wolf!)
The PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) generously donated a new book for each class and encouraged all of our students to participate in the Book Fair taking place the following day. Mrs. Barillas, president of PTF was so excited to have this event take place a day prior to the book sale. “I really believe this event helped get the students excited about reading and it seemed to help boost our book sales tremendously!”
Mrs. Marko was so excited to hear such great responses from our students and staff, she decided we should end the school year with another day of reading encouragement. In June we will have an event called, “Literacy Day: Beach, Bonfire and Books!”
It was truly a successful event for all!

Students are having fun working on their balance and learning all kinds of gymnastic moves. They are doing banana rolls, tumbles, bridges and “toes to your head” techniques. They are working on learning how to do push ups, so they can strengthen their arms to be able to learn to do a cartwheel.

In honor of Earth Day, this month we focused on reading books that talked about ways in which we can help our environment. We spoke about recycling, and saving water and energy to help protect our earth. We read “Our Class Is Going Green,” which is a book that was written by Kindergarten children and was published by scholastic because it won the ‘Kid’s Are Authors’ contest. We also read the book, “One Tree,” written by Leslie Bockol. This book is special because it is made from 98% recycled materials.

We had a great time tracing our numbers with popcorn kernels and creating fun, silly
poems that would help the students gain number recognition.

“Spring is here, and we are all excited”. Children were able to learn about the different parts of a bird – beak, wings, etc. We also had a great time making our beautiful bright colored flowers. In chapel we are named the Sunbeams. Our slogan is “The Sunbeams Are Blooming!” Children traced flowers and decorated them with tissue paper and pictures of themselves

Elementary students are celebrating Spring! They are making colorful collages of the spring season using construction paper and tissue paper. You should see the wonderful creations they have made using these two mediums. Way to Go!

Our preschoolers have been reading about God’s amazing wisdom and all the beautiful things that He created for all of us to enjoy. We read “God Thought Of It First,” which tells us about the greatest inventor ever, God. We learned about the inventions that man has created and how God thought of them first. For example the baby carrier that a parent straps on to carry their child resembles God’s invention for the Kangaroo who carries her baby in her pouch. It is amazing to see how Awesome our God is!

Singing, Dancing, Eating, Rapping, Performing, and Sharing were all a part of our Academic Fair which took place on Thursday, March19 th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. What an exciting evening it was for all – students and visitors alike. Students in all grades had been working feverishly since January on their projects and reports and as you walked aroung the school the aroma of wonderful foods filled the air. Foods from India, Africa, Guatemala, and many, many more countires were represented. THe sounds of students talking with visitors, projects humming, music playing, and students reciting were all sounds that filled that evening. There were many different sections to the Fair: Technolgy, Dance, Art, Science, History, Health, Bible, English, Home Ec., Countries, and many more. Many students dressed up to represent a certain person, or country; there were also scientific dissections to witness. Students were so excited as they got the chance to explain their projects and research to our visitors – nearly 1,000! What a great job all teachers, staff, parents and students did! We applaud you and can’t wait until next year!
Celebrating the month of love, we emphasized Jesus’ love to each other by memorizing our monthly verse I Peter 1:22, “Love each other with all your heart”. This was a very festive month. We played heart shaped Bingo, and decorated felt hearts with glitter and stickers. We worshiped Jesus through songs and gave Him thanks for first loving us. Most of all we wrote poems and posted them daily to create a poetry book of love designed by PreK 3. Thank you all for having hard working hands filled with love and joy.
