He Is Back

The Gingerbread Man has kept in touch as he promised. He has been traveling all over the United States and sent us postcards of his journey. He is working his way back to Evangel. We have recorded his adventure on our map and can’t wait to see him again. Now he is back bearing gifts and yummy cookie ornaments to decorate!

Happy Birthday Jesus

Kindergarten is excited to celebrate the season that remembers the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. We have many exciting activities planned including ginger bread houses, nativity ornaments, and even some holiday cooking! KV knows that in the middle of this season’s hustle and bustle we all must share with each other and remember that the true reason for this season is Jesus Christ.

December Fun

December is always an exciting month in Kindergarten! Kindergarten was thrilled to participate in their Christmas presentation that took place Friday evening December 10th. Many parents were very impressed with the singers, dancers, and, actors that took part in this program. KV sang their best as they bundled up on stage!

The Nativity

On December 14th, our elementary students came dressed as the nativity scene.  They had the chance to come dressed as the stories they heard that day.  Students had a great time reading and illustrating the Christmas story.

Gravity

This month in Science we are studying forces and states of matter. Did you know that gravity pulls everything to the center of the Earth? We are learning about this principle and many others. We performed a lab that seemed to defy the law of gravity using a ball and rice. We are also learning about inertia, a state of matter that says if an object is at rest it will remain at rest unless an outside force acts upon it. We were able to see this law when the class performed a lab where their coins seemed to pause in the air before gravity pulled them down.

Iroquois Indians

Last month in Social Studies 4L became the Iroquois Confederacy. Students were assigned roles in each of the Eastern Woodlands tribes. Each tribe had a clan mother, council leader, respected elder, and village member. The children were given Native American names and made headpieces. We also created artifacts and had to tell where and when they were found. We held a council meeting around a fire where students were challenged to make difficult decisions. At this time they also shared lessons and history through storytelling.

Thanksgiving

In Social Studies we became investigators and found out when Thanksgiving was made an official holiday and what the Pilgrims and Indians ate during the feast as well as how long it lasted. We ended November with a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and remembered how grateful we are for the things we have and our families.

M and M Math

In math we are using the m and m’s (multiplication menus) to solve long division problems. We also used the m and m’s to conserve water in water conservation word problems.

How does the eye see?

Many great things are happening in Fifth grade. In science we found out how the eye functions and did a hands on lab to see how an image can appear in the back of the retina. We used a balloon, lens and candle to see the image of the flame upside down on the back side of the balloon which is the retina.

We are thankful

November was a month in which kindergarten focused a lot on Thankfulness. Through our bible lessons, prayer times, and praise time, students articulated different things we could be thankful for, and different ways we could express our thanks. In our morning prayer and praise time students were able to pick out songs to sing that displayed thankfulness to God. Before our thanksgiving break KV celebrated in class with a thanksgiving feast. During our celebration we went around the room and expressed to each other what we were thankful for. A special thanks to all parents who donated a yummy dish or party supplies!
