Go ball go!
Students are starting to learn how to guide a ball with only their feet. They are also practicing kicking the ball to the direction they want it to go. These are all skills that will help them eventually learn to play soccer. They are also having fun trying to block the ball from going into the net.

Having a Ball in Gym Class
Students have been learning how to play soccer in gym class. They are learning how to get the ball to go in the direction they want without using their hands. They are learning how to guide the ball with only their feet. They not only get to kick the ball but they also take turns learning to be a goalie. The goalie has to use his hands and body to try and keep the ball out of the net.

ACSI Creative Writing Festival
The Association of Christian School International (ACSI) hosts a Creative Writing Festival annually in which students from Grades 4th through 12th can submit works in the categories of rhymed poetry, free verse poetry, short story, and essay. This year, Evangel Christian School submitted 30 entries and we celebrated our students’ accomplishments by awarding them their certificates and ribbons during a chapel service on Friday, March 12th. Out of the 30 entries, 14 students received an award for “Good,” 14 for “Excellent,” and two of are students received an overall mark of “Superior.” These two students will have their entries sent to the Regional level where if they receive a mark of Excellent or Superior they will be published in the ACSI Creative Writing Festival national publication. We are so proud of all our participants noted below with their overall standing. Great job, everyone!

Let’s Compare Music
Students have been learning how to compare various types of music. Two of the artists that the students compared this month were Judy Garland and Patty LaBelle. It was amazing to see how students used all the listening skills they have learned in music and were able to apply them to their assignment. Each week, no matter what the topic, these fourth and fifth grade students love to express the music through dance and motions. They are a great group of students to have.

Lets Dance
Students are having a great time learning line & folk dances to traditional folk tunes such as “Alabama Gal”, “Old Brass Wagon,” & “Dinah.” Once the students get passed having a partner they do a great job of singing and dancing to the music.

Skating on Paper Plates
Students have learned how to ice skate on paper plates to music this month. It has been very fun to see them do this. As the music changes from a fast song to a slow song, they change the tempo of their bodies. As a teacher it is neat to see how they are learning to move in correspondence to the beat.

And the sum of the product is…
On March 3rd Evangel hosted the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) Math Olympics. Six Christian schools participated in the event, and a total of 104 math scholars from third through eighth grade competed. Elementary students from each elementary grade met with Mrs. Ruiz weekly during their lunch/recess period to practice for the Olympics and were given extra homework to help them prepare. Middle School students met with Mr. Boyd and Mrs. Christian weekly for training. The Math Olympics consists of a series of timed tests in the areas of either computation or reasoning. At the awards ceremony following the competition the top five students from each grade in each category received an award. Be sure to check out the photos in our photoblog!

We love reading!
During February we thought about what we love about reading books and what books we love to read. Many of us especially enjoy reading the Bible. Reading makes us feel smart and it can help us relax after a long hard day of learning.
