Christmas Program

December has been a month full of exciting activities. Kindergarten did a wonderful job singing in their Christmas Program, and we were excited to see all the families that came to show their support. It was a blessing to see students celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, which is Jesus Christ! Kindergarten also had fun creating their very own Ginger Bread houses. This has become an annual kindergarten tradition, and they all made spectacular and yummy houses to share with their families.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

lion_sleeping_hg_clr

Students are learning about rhythm and expression this month. Students have been dancing and moving to the various rhythms they are learning. One of the favorites was in fourth and fifth grade where they danced and sang “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. They really enjoyed it and had the freedom to make up their own dance as long as it matched the rhythm. Third grade got to learn rhythm through the use of tennis balls. They had a great time seeing how every beat in each measure could be demonstrated through the use of the tennis ball. Some had a hard time controlling the tennis ball at first but they really got the hang of it. The students are having a great time learning how music can be expressed through dance, movement and the use of instruments.

Enrichment Class

Happy New Year’s. I pray everyone had a safe Christmas break. The group projects are starting to heat up. Most of the research has been done and now the teams are writing or typing their final papers. When your child has their work online they will be able to show you what they have been working on. The research has made way for the English side of learning. The groups are continuing to write about this new technology. The artisan is about to push their way into the project when the group starts working on their simulated web pages. This simulated web page is all about their technology. If you child’s group wins the regional judging they will get the opportunity to create a web page that may be put on the internet. Examples of winning projects can be seen at: www.dmail.exploravision.org. Click on winning entries and scroll to the age group you would like to look at and click view winning website. Time is short and the deadline is coming soon. January 25th for the paper part of the project and February 2nd for the electronic part of the projects.

God is good and His mercy endures forever.

From Land to Sea

It might be cold outside, but it has not stopped us from designing our own sea creatures, for our “Crabs Looking at Tens chart” and our classroom “Sea Star Quilt”. These charts will help the first graders gain a greater understanding of operations and counting patterns for addition and subtraction.

Christmas Around The World

What a wonderful evening was had by all as we celebrated our Savior’s birth! On Friday, December 11th our Elementary School celebrated Christmas Around the World. Songs were sung from different countries and children spoke about the way Christmas is celebrated in places other than America, such as Ireland, Brazil, etc.

Each grade had a special part to play and our Elementary Electives came through with “shining colors”. Our Dance Team danced to “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High”. The children did a great job and it was a beautiful dance. Our Drama Team took care of all of the narration! Way to go guys! Our Junior Chorus sang”This Little Light of Mine” and “Spread a Little Love”.

Reading Class

This month in Reading we are looking for inspiration. In our Reader we are reading a story written by Pat Cummings. She is a children’s book illustrator who draws her inspiration from everything around her. She gets ideas from the clothes people wear and the dreams she has to cloud formations she sees in the sky. We are also doing a writing project on Stone Fox, a Novel we just finished. It is about a boy who entered a dogsled race and won, even though nobody thought he could. We are sharing what dreams we have (no matter how impossible they may seem now) and what we would like to be able to accomplish one day.

Bible Class

This month in Bible 4L is studying the death and resurrection of Christ. It has been a very powerful time for the class as we each ask ourselves: Am I truly born again? We are also studying the Holy Spirit (whom Christ sent for us after He ascended). We are learning about how He is our Comforter, who is here to give us council and support; our Helper who gives us the boldness to preach, witness, and live our faith; and our Guide who shows us the right way to go as we navigate our way through the world.
