Ice Skating

This month 4th Grade went on a fieldtrip to Bryant Park where we skated around in circles- ice-skated that is. We had a day full of fun, laughter, and quite a few falls. Students who had never ice-skated before learned how and those with some skills got even better. I can proudly say nobody gave up even if some looked as though they had been taking swimming lessons instead of ice-skating by the time we were done.

Social Studies

In November for Social Studies 4L became the Iroquois Confederacy. Students were assigned roles in each of the Eastern Woodlands tribes and given Native American names. We made headpieces and artifacts. We held a council meeting where students were challenged to make difficult decisions; and share lessons and history through storytelling.

Computer Class

The 5th grade class has been learning how to use Microsoft Word this month. We have made an acrostic with our name and created sentences that go with each of the letters. The students have chosen which design and color they like for each sentence in our project. They have begun learning how to research their state on-line to reinforce what they are learning in class and get them ready to write a state report.

Computer Class

Students have been learning how to use the keyboard this month. They are practicing using Ctrl + Alt + Del to log-on to their computers. We are even working on our typing skills. Figuring out which one is the space bar, enter, delete, shift and backspace keys has been very exciting. The students are learning how and when to use each one. We are also discovering how to change font, its size, and color.

Music Class

Students are so excited to share their Christmas program with family and friends. They have learned a lot through this experience. This program focuses on countries all around the world and how they celebrate Christmas. After we have made it through the program, students will be able to sing Christmas carols and share what the true meaning of Christmas is for the last week of December. We look forward to coming back in January and continue learning music through instruments, voice and movement.

Christmas Around The World

Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Fifth grade will be singing two songs this year, O Come All Ye Faithful and Joyful, Joyful Lord We Adore Thee. They especially love their second song because we added movement. They have really brought life to our practices. I’m looking forward to parents sharing in this joy.

Christmas Around The World

Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Fourth grade will be singing, We Three Kings. The hardest part of learning this song has not been learning the lyrics but learning to wait during the rests when they don’t sing, we’re almost there. Fourth grade is getting older so they are also trying to learn to stay still rather than having a lot of movement during their song. They are doing quite well otherwise. They have been the best class, thus far, in how they enter and exit the sanctuary.

Christmas Around The World

Students have been working hard in preparation for the 2009 Christmas Program: Christmas Around the World. Second grade will be singing, Jesus Born in Bethlehem. This has been a challenging song as most of the other grades had familiar Christmas carols. They rose to the challenge though and have been working diligently to prepare. They are excited to have their parents come and hear what they have been working on.
