Have you ever thought what it would have been like to live 100 or 200 years ago? Well………1C discussed how it might have been, fun for a while, but soon we would miss all the things we have now. Sending messages to a friend or learning about the world was done so differently many years ago. We learned that instead of picking up the telephone or sending an e-mail or even writing a letter, people sent smoke signals, used stage coaches to carry mail or heard local news from the town crier. We all agree that it is faster to send a message for us, than it was for the Indians!!!

KV is also excited that they finished learning every letter of the alphabet! We are looking forward to learning more in phonics. Next week we are going to learn about the long vowel sounds, and use them in new words for our short stories.

This Month K-V is getting ready for spring! In science we are learning about the life stages of different animals. K-V was especially excited to learn about the life stages of the butterfly. They cannot wait for their caterpillars to come in the mail so they can watch them evolve into beautiful butterflies!

Elementary students are celebrating Spring! They are making colorful collages of the spring season using construction paper and tissue paper. You should see the wonderful creations they have made using these two mediums. Way to Go!

We have been reading the books ” I’m Gonna Like Me” and ” Just The Way You Are”. It’s wonderful to see that our second graders like themselves! These books reinforce how important it is to accept ourselves for who we are and to love, truly love, ourselves. Now our second graders are “letting off a little self esteem”! Way to go 2nd Grade!

Second Grade took a tour of the United States when preparing for the Academic Fair. They had the opportunity to demonstrate all of their academic abilities. They expressed how much fun they had working with their families to get their projects completed. They were also enthusiastic about presenting their projects in front of the class. They did an amazing job!

Our weekly current events has been interesting! The students are reading the newspaper every weekend or looking up articles on the Internet, and each week they are eager to share with the class what they’ve learned. Through this project we have been able to discuss what is happening in the world. In addition, they get the opportunity to see their work posted on our Writing Center Bulletin Board.
Preparing for the Social Studies Academic Fair was an exicting experience for our second graders as well. We have been studying the state of New York and our kids are fascinated by Times Square and the Statue of Liberty, especially since many of us come from different parts of the world.

Math continues to be fun by working with base-ten; this lends to the creativity of our picture problems! Second grade is flourishing in their problem solving!
President Obama’s Inaguration was an eye opener. Our second graders had the oportunity to see President Obama’s Inauguration in class. It was an exciting time for us because we were studying the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Our kids were able to see that Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality was a reality when Presidet Obama became the First Black President.
