What better way to enjoy school than with your favorite furry friend? That’s exactly what students in grades Pre-K3 through 5th got to do on Tuesday, September 29. Students and teachers were encouraged to bring their most beloved friend to show off during the day. Children excitedly placed their favorite animals on their desks as they worked hard throughout the day. “Bring Your Favorite Stuffed Animal to School Day!” – just another way we get to know each other a little bit better here at Evangel Christian School! Check out the cute and cuddly pictures in the gallery section of our website!

Kindergarten began the year off with a great start! During the month of September Kindergarten explored shapes, patterns, classification, and has made up new games that can be incorporated into our math work place time. We are also excited to be working with Mrs. Bienemann our new reading teacher, who reads to us everyday and works together with Ms. Velez and Mrs. Torres during our reading time. KV is very excited about the concepts they will explore and learn as the year progresses.
We read “The Little School Bus” and learned what order the animals got on the bus in. First was the goat in his coat. The students thought it was funny when the sly fox stepped onto the bus in his socks. We all wanted to take a nap when the sleepy sheep got on. Through this book the Kindergarten class learned how to put things in order. Stop by the Reading Zone on the 2nd floor to see their work.

Kindergarten had a wonderful graduation ceremony and celebration. We were so excited to see our Kindergarten students walk down the aisle and receive their Kindergarten Diploma. Thank you to all parents for your support and assistance this year. We wish you a blessed summer, and prayers of blessings to our Kindergarten Graduating Class of 2009.

Reader’s Oath – by Debra Angstead
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it’s the key
To growing up right.
I’ll read to myself,
I’ll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I’ll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
‘Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
Children and adults need time to unwind and enjoy the summer, so make summer reading fun! Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from reading (or learning) since students who engage in reading activities return to school refreshed, excited and ready to pick up where they left off. Also remember that most Evangel students have summer book reports to do so…
Here are some tips to make reading a positive experience:
Keep LOTS of reading material around the home –books, newspapers, magazines and always, the Bible
Read outdoors – at the park or beach
Read to your child (it doesn’t matter how old or young your child is!)
Let your child read to you (older children can read newspaper or magazine articles)
Visit the library, check your local library’s website for special reading-related
activities and age-appropriate book lists
Model reading – turn off the TV and each person reads his or her book
(including Mom, Dad, grandparent)
ASK them what they think about what they’ve read and LISTEN to what they say

Have a wonderful summer!
Kindergarten enjoyed listening to graduation stories since they will be graduating at the end of the month. This is a time of great excitement and accomplishment for them. It is very touching to see their faces light up when this day is mentioned to them.

For the month of May and June the classes enjoyed learning gymnastics.
The students did basic movements like toes to the head, tumbles, bridges, banana rolls, and cartwheels. The students also got involved in activity games like relay races, scooter races, steel the bacon, red light green light 123, cat and mouse, parachute activity, baseball basics, and basketball shooting game.
