Students made thank you/we’ll miss you cards and posters for their teachers. These cards showed the children’s appreciation and were placed in their teacher’s mail box on the last day of school.

Students in Fifth grade and Kindergarten spent their June Music classes getting ready for their graduations. Both of the ceremonies were great!

Kindergarten is very excited about the month of June. We are getting ready for the end of the year and our summer vacation. KV is excited to use their little readers from the classroom library center, and many kindergarteners are reading successfully!
Miss Velez
The Kindergarten class has had a great time in the library this month. We read “A House For Hermit Crab,” which was great for them since they just acquired a class pet, a hermit crab, whom they named Racer.
I created a large hermit crab out of paper and they decorated it with all sorts of sea creatures just like the book. They were very excited.

This month KV has been very busy. KV was very excited to go on a trip to the big city, and visit PETCO. At Petco we had a tour of a large pet shop. Kindergarten was able to pet some of the animals, and even pick out their new class pet. KV picked out and purchased a Hermit Crab on our class trip. We are learning responsibility, and taking care of our new class pet, Racer. A special thanks to all the parent volunteers who came with us on our trip!

Several middle school students and one elementary student had the privilege of participating in the Annual Association of Christian Schools International Art Fair in North Stonington, CT. The students were exited to get out of the city and to see for themselves what the competition is like.
Upon arrival to North Stonington Christian Church & Academy we attended a chapel service. This chapel service was where all the schools introduced themselves and guest speakers shared how God can use art and is the Master Artist. After chapel we headed to the wreck room where students were served lunch and had the opportunity to interact with kids from other schools. After lunch everyone headed to the school where all the artwork and ribbons were displayed. The artwork was judged before schools arrived and were rated Superior, Excellent or Good.
One piece of artwork (made this year) was submitted for each student and was compared with that of other students of the same grade level from other Christian schools. Evangel Christian School did an excellent job! Abrianna Ross (kindergarten) and Sopia Paskov (second grade) came in 1st in their age group, April Joanne Abortante (eighth grade), Angelie Cesario (seventh grade), Nicholas Reyes (fifth grade) and Christian Pascal (first grade) came in 2nd in their age group and last but not least Kreg Franco (seventh grade), Kristina Papacostas (seventh grade), Natale Barbosa (seventh grade), Astroy Semple (sixth grade), Amber Reyes (fourth grade) and Emmily Carrasquillo (eighth grade) came in 3rd in their age group.
Although we did a great job this year we plan to come back next year even stronger and ready to give all the other schools a run for their money!

On Sunday, May 3, 2009, the congregation of Evangel Church was treated to a spectacular display of talent! Evangel Christian School’s littlest lambs, from Pre-K3 through 5th grade, sang, danced, read scripture, and gave awesome testimonies for the glory of God.
Featured in the annual Elementary Spring Show were the Junior Praise Dancers who performed to “Holy Spirit, Rain Down” and the Junior Chorus singing “He Knows My Name.” The Junior Drama Team gave a hilarious account of “The Eight Dwarf”–a mini-play featuring the character, Forgetful, who although he forgot many things, God never forgot him! Forgetful, and the audience, learned that he was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)!
The grand finale featured the Junior Chorus and Praise Dancers coming together in “Firm Foundation”.
Teachers and students alike worked hard to make this production possible and it sure was worth all the hard work! Check out our school’s picture gallery to see the performers in action!

Our Elementary Spring Celebration took place on Sunday, May 3rd. What a wonderful celebration it was; singing, dancing, drama, testimonies, and Scripture verses were all part of this fantastic event. Pre-K3, Pre-K4 and Kindergarten sang, “Clap your hands all you people” and a Jewish song that means we bring you peace. First and Second Grades sang “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” The Junior Dance Team danced to “Holy Spirit, Reign Down” dressed in white and purple with purple and silver streamers. “The Eighth Dwarf” is the adorable play that the Junior Drama Team performed at the celebration. Through this drama we learned that God made us and loves us all, despite our shortcomings. At the end of the play the dwarfs asked Snow White and the eighth dwarf, forgetful, to dance with them to a fantastic song entitled, “I am not Forgotten.” To finish the celebration our Junior Chorus sang “He Knows My Name” and the Junior Dance Team danced to a song about God being our Strong Tower. A big thank you to all students and staff for making this celebration so spectacular and glorifying God in song, dance and drama.

Our elementary school had its first “Literacy Day: Tales by the Campfire” event. Our fellowship hall was transformed into a campground with stars and a moon dangling from the ceiling, six-foot forest trees, a sleeping tent, and a wonderful faux campfire, which the kids were really excited about. Each class was able to gather around the “fire”, snuggle in their blankets and hold tight to their teddy bears as they were read a series of children’s books by some of our staff and student leaders.
Each class was not only treated to stories by the campfire, but our helpful high school students performed two musicals inspired by two classic children’s books, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Three Little Pigs. This was the highlight for most of the little ones, who especially loved the big bad wolf (he was a silly, not scary wolf!)
The PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) generously donated a new book for each class and encouraged all of our students to participate in the Book Fair taking place the following day. Mrs. Barillas, president of PTF was so excited to have this event take place a day prior to the book sale. “I really believe this event helped get the students excited about reading and it seemed to help boost our book sales tremendously!”
Mrs. Marko was so excited to hear such great responses from our students and staff, she decided we should end the school year with another day of reading encouragement. In June we will have an event called, “Literacy Day: Beach, Bonfire and Books!”
It was truly a successful event for all!

Students are having fun working on their balance and learning all kinds of gymnastic moves. They are doing banana rolls, tumbles, bridges and “toes to your head” techniques. They are working on learning how to do push ups, so they can strengthen their arms to be able to learn to do a cartwheel.
