We took a journey in reading lab, with a father and son, as they observed harp seals, as we read the story “Seal Journey”. The students learned that harp seals get their name because the markings on their backs look like a harp. They also learned that baby seals are called pups and their fur is yellow until the sun bleaches it white.

Students will learn about Negative & Positive Spaces and how we can use these spaces to create images. Using a 6X6 piece of black construction paper, they will cut the square into smaller shapes to create an image (of their choice). Once they have turned their square into a visual design they will glue it onto a white sheet of paper and see how the negative space of a design is just as important as the positive space.

We just finished a story called Stone Fox. The story was full of unexpected events and the students were on the “edge of their seats” wating to read more. They didn’t want to stop reading when class was over. We are loving reading and “opening up” our imaginations.
