Elementary School’s Christmas Program took place on Friday, December 12, 2008 – “Through the Eyes of the Friendly Beasts”. Third through fifth grade elective classes performed the drama, dance and chorus part of the program. Pre-school were dressed up as the world’s cutest angels. Kindergartners were the kings and brought gifts to Baby Jesus. First and second graders were shepherds out in the fields keeping watch over their flocks.
This program had us view the Christmas Story through the eyes of the animals that were present that Holy Night. The Sanctuary was filled with parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and many friends. Over 700 were in attendance.

During Thanksgiving week our school had many celebrations that included food and lots of fun. Fourth and Fifth grade had truly traditional Feasts. Students dressed as Pilgrims and Indians, gave thanks, and ate lots and lots of yummy food. Middle School and High School had huge feasts in the Fellowship Hall. There was a bounty of food, talent, and giving of thanks to the Lord for His many blessings. A great time was had by all. Make sure to “check out” galleries for lots of great pics.
This week students are becoming paleontologists in Math, we are challenging ourselves to see if we can figure out multiplication products just by using the “bones” of an array. We will also delve deeper into doing math with money. We will read a great book that makes us think about what it would be like if money really did grow on trees; and helps us calculate how much money we would grow if it did.

This week 4L went ice-skating! A little rain didn’t keep us down. We had a great time at the Pond in Bryant Park. From good skaters to newbies everyone got on the ice and had a wonderful time learning how to skate. Though there were quite a few falls, there were just as many smiles, and even more laughs. I am very proud at my students’ determination to learn how to skate and not give up until they did. We truly had a terrific trip.

This has been a very exciting week for 4L. In Social Studies we became the Iroquois Confederacy. We separated into different tribes (each student playing an important role), made headpieces, and held a council meeting in which they made some difficult decisions and told interesting and entertaining stories. We also celebrated our Thanksgiving feast. I cannot thank our parents enough for all the delicious food they made. We had a wonderful day and ate our full. We are definitely thankful!

Students had fun taking part in the school’s harvest fair. They came dressed up as anything from cowgirls and farmers to scarecrows and turkeys. They enjoyed playing games that were run by older students, doing crafts, and having their faces painted. 4L won for best class costumes in elementary school. We also were triumphant in this seasons godly behavior challenge!

Fourth grade led our elementary school chapel on November 7. We performed skits about how people behave before and after they have God’s love in their heart. We talked about how we receive the fruit of the Spirit. How we need to be more patient and kind with each other- instead of rude, self-seeking, proud, and unforgiving. We ended our chapel by performing a song in sign language about God making a difference in us.

In Science we are learning about the different forces around us from gravity to inertia. Did you know these are the two forces that keep the Moon in orbit around the Earth and the planets in orbit around the Sun? By doing fun experiments we are discovering that gravity pulls everything toward the center of the earth; and inertia can make coins pause in the air.

The fourth grade picked the theme of animals. They will be borrowing a weekly book about any animal that they may want to read about. In reading about all the different creations that God made, we will look at how God created us all differently and how we are all uniquely special to Him. We will see how awesome, and omnipotent God is to have created all the different creatures with such unique characteristics, and thus praise and thank him for all his blessings.
