BounceU Trip

For all their hard work, Evangel treated our elementary Speech Meet Team to a fantastic trip! We headed to BounceU which features different bounce houses, inflatable slides, and games. The students had a great time climbing up tall towers and sliding down as fast speeds! They ran obstacles courses and even boxed each other with inflatable gloves. You do not want to miss the pictures and videos on our website! Thank you to our elementary students for their achievements!

Rhythm

Students have been focusing on rhythm. They have identified various types of drums as well as other instruments. Students have been able to come up and demonstrate beats on the drums. Another fun way the students have learned rhythm is through tennis balls. It is a great music method called, Dalcrose, where students apply the number of beats per measure with a particular pattern using a tennis ball. It has been an exciting month seeing students play instruments and learn about rhythm.

ABA

Students have been working hard on learning about form. We have used a lot of dancing to illustrate form. The younger students learn simple AB form where they move one way during the A section and then they move another way during the B section. They not only learn to sing the music, but to move to it as well. As the student gets older, we have learned ABA form and ABACA form. They are having a great time of movement and singing in the class.

Celebrating God’s Goodness

This year’s Spring Celebration took place on Monday, May24th and was a mixture of Elementary, Middle and High School students. Students performed skits, dramas, songs, and dances unto the Lord. What a great celebration it was and everyone was blessed – even the performers. Thanks to all for working so hard and glorifying God with the use of our talents.

Please see “Galleries” for lots of pictures!

Super Power

If I had a super power what would it be and how would I use it to help the world. This was the topic for our own book! One student had brain power and would help students learn better, one student had super human power that would repair devastations like in Haiti and save people. One child even found the solution for world hunger. All of their essays were innovative and creative. When asked, the students agreed that Mrs. Emestica’s super power would be to transport through time with a flick of my hand! Thank God for an imagination. Job well done 5E.

Learn From The Sansei

Right angels, obtuse, triangles, parallelograms we are having fun in geometry figuring out patterns and learning our angels. We went into the geometry matrix where I, Mrs. Emestica, was the geometry Sansei. I modeled the angels and the students guessed what they were in order to be able to move on to the next level. When 5E had mastered the different angels they were able to become a Sansei like me.

Know Your States

Did you know that the state flower of South Carolina, the Jasmine is poisonous, but at the same time is used in medicine? Did you know that the best blueberries come from Maine? The state of Georgia is known as the peach state but who knew it has seven other nicknames. Did you know that the franchise called Starbucks all started in Washington! As 5E did state presentations we all learned different interesting fact about each other’s states.

Ronald McDonald Promotes Literacy

Literacy”  was the theme that was emphasized during Ronald’s visit to Evangel on Tuesday, May 19, 2010. The students sang songs, saw a puppet show and had a great time learning about “Book Time” and the love of reading. Ronald encouraged our students not to “play the day away, but to grab a good book and go on an adventure!”  We are very grateful to McDonald’s for sending Ronald to our K-5th grade students to share how important it is to love reading and to read books  with excitement!!  We can’t wait until he comes to visit us again!!!!!! Thank you to the McDonalds Corporation for their generosity in choosing our school for their community outreach efforts.

Please visit our “Galleries” to view some wonderful pictures.

Peacock Bookmarks

Reading is fun but its tough when you forget which page you left off at. Students made lively peacock bookmarks using Popsicle sticks, feathers, googley eyes and markers. There’s no better way to save your page then with a bright peacock!

Beginning Typing – no wait – Keyboarding

The students in elementary have begun a focused unit studying the history and basics of keyboarding. We have taken a speed test and many of the students have some natural ability. The students are exploring Microsoft Word and love drawing pictures for each other in Pixie, our basic illustration software. Jump start is a great addition to your home software collection. The students love playing it and they learn about many different subjects from playing it.
