Several middle school students and one elementary student had the privilege of participating in the Annual Association of Christian Schools International Art Fair in North Stonington, CT. The students were exited to get out of the city and to see for themselves what the competition is like.
Upon arrival to North Stonington Christian Church & Academy we attended a chapel service. This chapel service was where all the schools introduced themselves and guest speakers shared how God can use art and is the Master Artist. After chapel we headed to the wreck room where students were served lunch and had the opportunity to interact with kids from other schools. After lunch everyone headed to the school where all the artwork and ribbons were displayed. The artwork was judged before schools arrived and were rated Superior, Excellent or Good.
One piece of artwork (made this year) was submitted for each student and was compared with that of other students of the same grade level from other Christian schools. Evangel Christian School did an excellent job! Abrianna Ross (kindergarten) and Sopia Paskov (second grade) came in 1st in their age group, April Joanne Abortante (eighth grade), Angelie Cesario (seventh grade), Nicholas Reyes (fifth grade) and Christian Pascal (first grade) came in 2nd in their age group and last but not least Kreg Franco (seventh grade), Kristina Papacostas (seventh grade), Natale Barbosa (seventh grade), Astroy Semple (sixth grade), Amber Reyes (fourth grade) and Emmily Carrasquillo (eighth grade) came in 3rd in their age group.
Although we did a great job this year we plan to come back next year even stronger and ready to give all the other schools a run for their money!

On Sunday, May 3, 2009, the congregation of Evangel Church was treated to a spectacular display of talent! Evangel Christian School’s littlest lambs, from Pre-K3 through 5th grade, sang, danced, read scripture, and gave awesome testimonies for the glory of God.
Featured in the annual Elementary Spring Show were the Junior Praise Dancers who performed to “Holy Spirit, Rain Down” and the Junior Chorus singing “He Knows My Name.” The Junior Drama Team gave a hilarious account of “The Eight Dwarf”–a mini-play featuring the character, Forgetful, who although he forgot many things, God never forgot him! Forgetful, and the audience, learned that he was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)!
The grand finale featured the Junior Chorus and Praise Dancers coming together in “Firm Foundation”.
Teachers and students alike worked hard to make this production possible and it sure was worth all the hard work! Check out our school’s picture gallery to see the performers in action!

Fourth and Fifth grades are learning about other cultures and their music. Through this musical exploration, they are learning to distinguish the sounds of different insturments and how they sound together. Students are also learning to notice changes in harmony and dynamics. We are seeking to grow in our appreciation for the gift of music.

5E loves competition and we showed our sportsmanship by competing in our annual Field Day. “Hurray for Evangel Christian School”! We cheered as each student competed in relay races, jump rope, the long jump, softball throw, and the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Patiently we waited to hear the results, and 5E came up on top again! We took home two trophies, one for 2nd place boys and 4th place for the girls. What an exciting day for 5E! To end it all, we all got free hotdogs and some fun in the sun.

Our Elementary Spring Celebration took place on Sunday, May 3rd. What a wonderful celebration it was; singing, dancing, drama, testimonies, and Scripture verses were all part of this fantastic event. Pre-K3, Pre-K4 and Kindergarten sang, “Clap your hands all you people” and a Jewish song that means we bring you peace. First and Second Grades sang “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” The Junior Dance Team danced to “Holy Spirit, Reign Down” dressed in white and purple with purple and silver streamers. “The Eighth Dwarf” is the adorable play that the Junior Drama Team performed at the celebration. Through this drama we learned that God made us and loves us all, despite our shortcomings. At the end of the play the dwarfs asked Snow White and the eighth dwarf, forgetful, to dance with them to a fantastic song entitled, “I am not Forgotten.” To finish the celebration our Junior Chorus sang “He Knows My Name” and the Junior Dance Team danced to a song about God being our Strong Tower. A big thank you to all students and staff for making this celebration so spectacular and glorifying God in song, dance and drama.

Our elementary school had its first “Literacy Day: Tales by the Campfire” event. Our fellowship hall was transformed into a campground with stars and a moon dangling from the ceiling, six-foot forest trees, a sleeping tent, and a wonderful faux campfire, which the kids were really excited about. Each class was able to gather around the “fire”, snuggle in their blankets and hold tight to their teddy bears as they were read a series of children’s books by some of our staff and student leaders.
Each class was not only treated to stories by the campfire, but our helpful high school students performed two musicals inspired by two classic children’s books, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Three Little Pigs. This was the highlight for most of the little ones, who especially loved the big bad wolf (he was a silly, not scary wolf!)
The PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) generously donated a new book for each class and encouraged all of our students to participate in the Book Fair taking place the following day. Mrs. Barillas, president of PTF was so excited to have this event take place a day prior to the book sale. “I really believe this event helped get the students excited about reading and it seemed to help boost our book sales tremendously!”
Mrs. Marko was so excited to hear such great responses from our students and staff, she decided we should end the school year with another day of reading encouragement. In June we will have an event called, “Literacy Day: Beach, Bonfire and Books!”
It was truly a successful event for all!

News Flash 5E “Goes Green” in honor of Earth Day we opened up our class room blinds and let the sun shine in and turned off the lights for about 5 min. We saved about a few dollars of electricity. What else can we do to save energy? Hmmm, being that we are the future of tomorrow we began to journal, “If we were inventors, what kind of inventions could we make to solve some of our world problems?” From a shrink/growth ray to a transformable vehicle that fits the need for every family except does not use gas. 5E cares about the world we live in and has raised awareness about Global warming. We agreed that if we could plant a tree to make a difference we would.

Elementary students are celebrating Spring! They are making colorful collages of the spring season using construction paper and tissue paper. You should see the wonderful creations they have made using these two mediums. Way to Go!

Elementary has learned many new things in the computer lab this month. We have been using a new program to increase their skills and reinforce what they are learning in their classrooms. The students are having a blast and the younger students can’t even tell they are learning the alphabet and math at the same time.
Mr. Miller
Jesus is definitely moving in our classroom, after all He is our healer. 5E has prayed for several petitions for healing that have been answered. We are seeing God hear and answer our prayers. Thank you Jesus for miving and 5E for your awesome faith. We can definitely say faith moves mountains.
