Fourth grade led our elementary school chapel on November 7. We performed skits about how people behave before and after they have God’s love in their heart. We talked about how we receive the fruit of the Spirit. How we need to be more patient and kind with each other- instead of rude, self-seeking, proud, and unforgiving. We ended our chapel by performing a song in sign language about God making a difference in us.

5E will continue to borrow two books each week. They will borrow one nonfiction so they can learn new information about a topic they are interested in and the second book will be one of their choosing. We will also be working on identifying the parts of a book. They will be introduced to the Dewey Decimal System of classification so that when they need to find a book it will be easy for them to locate it. We will also be talking about God’s mercies, which are new everyday. We will be praying to the Lord that he may give us a thankful heart.

Can you imagine staring at a picture of a ship and sea, when all of a sudden it comes alive. You are swept into the ocean on a large wave. The waves a surging all around you and you can barely stay afloat. When all of a sudden you a rescued and pulled to safety onto the same boat you saw in the picture. This is what happened in the story “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” by C.S. Lewis. The 5th Grade Reading Lab class has just finished this story and experienced life in Narnia with Lucy and Edmond.Reading is fun and the more you read the more you learn.

Prepositions, prepositions and more prepositions. It sounds a little redundant right.
Not to worry it is all leading to the writing process. This week we will be creatively writing prepositional descriptive sentences. We will also be investigating the way an author expresses their ideas through the effective use of language. For example Mrs. Emestica’s class is the best class in the entire school. Although there is some truth to that statement ( : it is very descriptive of our class. Students will examine the four elements of language: tone, metaphor, personification, and sensory language to determine what the author says and how he says it.

Exciting things are taking place in 5E. Bible is really taping into our hearts and relationship with Jesus. We just finished coming out of Egypt and are on our way to the desert. We are learning to be responsible for our actions and accountable for the things we do and say. Salvation does not come from mom or dad but only from Jesus. Our worship is really touching the heart of God our Father as He visits us with His presence every morning. In the famous words of Mrs. Emestica did you speak to him today???

We are having a lot of fun in computer lab so far this year. The elementary students come in once a week and have started to learn how to use a computer. The students are excited when they come in and get to play their games based on their grade level. The games they play incorporate every subject they are learning in class, and turns it into a lot of fun. I look forward to having their excited and smiling faces enter the lab each week.

The students have been borrowing one book of their choosing and the second has been a biography. We have talked about biographies. They have been writing about what they are reading, about who they read and what they learned about that person. They have also been experimenting with writing their own biographies. We have had a great time in the library.

Last week we really had a great time seeing what happens to active yeast in our science lesson. Our math lesson involved coin tossing and collecting data as well as probability. Our highlight of the week was our competitive review game – boys VS girls. All of the students reviewed what was going to be on the quiz. This week we are creating a greenhouse to find out what the life cycle of an onion is, and learn about photosynthesis.

God Bless You! My name is Mrs. Ermestica, and I am your child’s 5th grade teacher. There are many great upcoming events and activities that I am excited about this year. Just to mention a little about myself, this is my first year at Evangel and I am so joyful that God has welcomed me into this great school and Christian family. Although it is my first year at Evangel, I have been teaching for seven years and have taught classes from Pre-K 3 through 8th grades.
