After finishing volcanoes and watching live footage of volcanic eruptions, we have settled back down to the Earth. We are now taking a closer look at weathering and soil erosion. Now that the students have a great understanding of how our Earth’s surface can be destroyed, and we are digging deeper to see exactly what is happening to the soil when destruction occurs.

We have just started the exciting unit of the human body! Students will have many opportunities to get “hands on” during this unit as we discover the different parts of the human body, as well as how each part works to make our body function. I am excited for our students to see their creative sides and fill the classroom with neat diagrams and replicas of the human body and all it’s parts!

The sixth graders have just finished the Unit about our constantly changing Earth, where they focused on volcanoes. We are now moving on to the continuity of life, where we will study reproduction and heredity. Students will get to discover what exactly makes us look the way we do, and how our traits are inherited.
Miss Lawrence
We did a project in Bible class where the students wrote down things they wanted to see changed in their own lives. We took the requests and put them in an envelope for them to receive at the end of the school year. This will allow them to see if there has been any growth or change from now to end of the school year, and also for students to see the powerful effects of prayer!
God Bless,
Ms. Ramos

Middle School is getting creative. We are using our writing skills to compose songs. Through writing, composing and arranging our song, we are learning about song structure and how to understand music when we listen to it.

Students just completed another chapter. They will be working on data analysis and statistics for the month of February. This is a continuation from 6th grade math, with a little more added on.
Mrs. Racoma

Students will be working on fractions this month. They will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and not to forget putting them into simplest form.

Middle School 6th graders will be working on Valentines Day cards and 7th graders will be working on “Love Is” paintings. Eighth grade is working on paper mache vases and picture frames that will be painted in the traditional Valentines colors. Students will be reminded that the greatest act of love took place on the cross.

Middle school has been learning a lot in computer lab in the last few weeks. We just recently completed our curriculum of Microsoft Word 2007. We learned all the new features and options of the new Microsoft program. We have started to learn how to use Google as a search engine on the Internet. We learned how to narrow our searches through keywords and then identify correct information in Google. Google has a lot of great features and we are having lots of fun learning about them all.

As parents may have already found out, the sixth graders had a challenge at our first annual bowl-a-thon. Both classes had the challenge to beat the other class with the chance of seeing the opposing teacher’s face with a pie in it. After all the points were totaled, 6R won the first bowling game and 6S won the second game. In keeping with team spirit, Mr. Sanchez and Mrs. Racoma both took a pie in the face at the end of chapel last Friday. The top scoring students had the privilege of throwing the pies. Naomi Lowe-Tina smeared a pie in Mr. Sanchez’s face, as well as hair, and Christopher Reyes smashed a pie in Mrs. Racoma’s face. 6th grade looks forward to many more challenges.
