The students had a great time working on their entries for the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) Creative Writing Festival. Students put their best effort into creating short stories, essays, and poems. Isaiah Bienemann of 6R wrote a cool story about a plane-from the plane’s perspective! Rohan Hutchinson of 6R wrote a beautiful poem about angels, and David Hamilton wrote one about his wonderful parents. It was hard picking just a few to enter into the next level of competition and I congratulate those who were selected! Aside from this nice “creative” break, the students are busy preparing for their mid-year finals. Prepositions, anyone…?

This month we have been looking at the true meaning of joy. Where joy comes from, and how we draw strength from Joy. This holiday season can be a despresing time for many people. They know it’s the holiday season that’s supposed to be filled with love, joy and peace, but still feel a void. The 6th grade class is learning that true joy comes from God. It has nothing to do with outward circumstances but rather what the Holy Spirit has deposited in you. Ture joy is knowign God loves and acceptes you.

Students are continuing with patterns, tables and expressions and how they fit onto a scatter plot. As they conclude this topic, seventh grade will quickly go into learning about integers and how they work on a number line.

Students are continuing with fractions at the beginning of January. They will be learning how to put them in simplest form, writing equivalent fractions, as well as comparing and ordering them. They will finish out the week with a test on fractions and start looking at terminating and repeating decimals.

7th grade has been discussing how to become Christ like. At this age it is very critical to help build their character, but more importantly Godly character. Our next lesson is going to be on Honesty. Some questions that we will discuss will be, who is the father of lies? How does our honesty affect our relationship with others? What are the consequences of dishonesty? My prayer for these students is that their actions and entire being will just be a reflection of Jesus. Our theme has been ” They will know we are Christians by our love.” I am so blessed to have your children in my Bible class, and I am very excited for this New Year!
Merry Christmas & A Blessed New Year!

During December we have enjoyed sharing our talents in Christmas programs that portrayed the true meaning of Christmas; we have found encouragement from secret angels; and have even enjoyed the first real snow of the season. Students can learn that they have the ability to bless others and can give the gift of themselves. James 1 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created”. I pray that the Christmas break brings many blessings to each family. We certainly have God’s goodness to look forward to in the New Year.

The seasoned scientists of the 8th grade have been phenomenal so far in their studies about rocks and Earth’s resources. We have just opened up the Earth’s surface to discover the world of plate tectonics and plate boundaries. The students are preparing group presentations to teach their fellow classmates about their topics in new and exciting ways. I am excited to see the demonstrations that may take place with this hands-on topic!

The rousing scientists of the 7th grade have just finished a grueling couple of weeks studying heredity. While the notes and tests are never as exciting as hands-on activities, the students prepared their minds and they are now practicing their skills in activities about mitosis and meiosis. The students are actually going through each step of the two processes and showing the amount of chromosomes present in each cell. I am very proud of the students for tackling such a hard concept as mitosis and meiosis!
