African Music
Middle school learned about African culture. How African music and movement of dance has impacted their daily lives. They also got to show how music affected them and why they liked music.

New Challenges
Middle school has tried many new things even above their age level. This of course was not told to them till after they started. They have learned in 6th grade to paint with watercolors and the different techniques of how to do this. 7th grade amazed themselves on how well they did when challenged to work with oil pastels. 8th grade did great work with their sculptures. They used paper to create anything from a can of soda to a remarkable detailed drum set.

We had a wonderful Spring Program. Elementary students danced to Shout to the Lord, with streamers. The middle school danced to Go Fast, and high school danced and ministered the songs that they did in Hawaii. The high school electives also danced to I’m Free.

Is it OK to Lie
During 2nd semester, one of the novels sixth graders read and enjoyed was the exciting and suspenseful Newbery winner, Number the Stars. Students learned about injustice and prejudice and discussed ways to respond as a Christian. In addition, the main character, Annemarie, is confronted with the issue of lying, (specifically to protect family), so sixth graders competed in a mini-debate based on Biblical research to answer the question, Is it ever okay to lie?

Discovery Education
This year has been one filled with creative work from my students. After each country studied, each student prepared a poster board of that country and presented it to their classmates. We viewed various continents using discovery education and were able to actually see what each place currently looked like. The continents we viewed visually were Africa, Asia, South America and Europe. We looked at maps of those continents, as well as Australia and North America. This last week in June, each student painted on large paper where they were from. They included important things about themselves and their families, which they presented to their classmates. This Tuesday we will have a special breakfast, which each student will bring their favorite breakfast meals either from their home country or their favorite meals here. Sharing a meal with their friends is a great way to end the year.

Integers
The sixth graders finished out the year strong tackling integers and reviewing for their state tests and finals. They have worked hard all year and were able to have some fun playing fraction games after their final.

¡Llegamos al fín del año!
This year, 6th Grade was introduced to the wonderful world of Spanish. Through Beginner Spanish, they have learned new vocabulary relating to restaurants and cafés, school supplies, seasons, months of the year, days of the week, numbers, and so much more. Foods and cultural highlights were brought forth in tangible ways as we celebrated Hispanic Heritage months, Cinco de Mayo and las fiestas del año. The journey has just begun as we continue our journey into the Spanish-speaking world next year. Looking forward to it

Pride vs Humility
This year in Bible class we studied a whole range of different characters as well as things we should apply to our daily lives. In one such lesson for the 6th grade we learned about Absalom and how his pride was his downfall and we need to be humble people. Even if we feel we are better than others, God’s word teaches us that He loves humility and despises pride. The students loved this lesson as we acted out the life of Absalom, in an object lesson.

Speed Drills
The sixth graders are a spirited group of students who love working together and helping each other with math problems. They enjoy doing daily speed drills for their do-now. These drills reinforce foundational math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division). We have seen how the properties of addition and multiplication can also be applied to decimals and fractions.

Egypt
Students took turns coming to the front of the classroom and asked other students questions about art from Egypt.
