Spanish

In December, we made a giant Christmas banner, sent get well cards to a sick staff member and even designed our own personalized 2010 Calendars.

Spanish

Students did some very fun and exciting activities in Spanish class. They focused on working with phrases and terms that are used in Latin-American countries regarding Thanksgiving. They had fun making expanded Alphabet books and even made posters.

Sparkle

During the week of November 16-20, sixth graders wrote their own sentences using each vocabulary word. As a class, we played a review game called Sparkle to prepare for the Vocab. Test. Additionally, students wrote the lead, body paragraphs, and conclusion of their “6th Grade So Far” expository essays.

Sixth Grade So Far

In preparation for writing an expository essay, sixth graders analyzed examples of thesis statements, good and poor ones. Students also choose their own thesis and completed an outline for their 6th Grade So Far essay.

Reading Class

In November we have been reading the book Old Yeller. Students have been sharing their thoughts and opinions about the book as well as answering questions to show comprehension. They also read an article about Hydrophobia, an old term for rabies. They worked in partners to write down what they learned and some specifics about symptoms and vaccinations used to treat the disease.

Computer Class

The 6th grade class has been learning how to use Microsoft Excel this month. We have timed our own heart beats and created a spreadsheet and graph of our class’ number of heart beats in a minute both before and after exercising. The students have also made a spreadsheet that finds the class’ average number of blinks in a minute!

Music Class

Students will be sharing their class song with the community for our Christmas program. Students have also been working on a Christmas song project in class. They worked with others from their class to prepare a favorite Christmas song. They are excited about this project and I have heard some great voices that I would have never discovered had we not done this assignment.

Christmas Program

Students have been working hard all month long in preparation for their upcoming Christmas program on December 17. The sixth grade will be sharing Go Tell It on the Mountain. While this is a traditional song sung at this time of year, they were able to learn a new arrangement and have been doing a great job. The seventh grade has had quite the challenge as they will be singing a Hebrew song, Hine Ma Tov. As much as they complain about learning a different language, I hear them in the hallways singing the song, it brings me much laughter. Finally, the eighth grade will be singing African Celebration. This is also sung in a different language but they have had no problem learning this song. I’m looking forward to a great Christmas program which illustrates how we are to go into all the world and preach the good news of Jesus Christ.

wacky day select collage

This year’s Spirit Week has been the best so far! Our Middle School and High School students showed tremendous school spirit by participating in this event. Monday was “Flashback Day”. Students were able to dress up in clothing from a different era. We had students represent the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, and earlier periods. This was absolutely the best way to kick off a fun-filled week. Tuesday we had “Multiplicity Day.” Students were able to dress alike as twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. We even had a pair of students dressed as the Super Mario Brothers! On Wednesday we had “Wacky Hair, Feet and Wear Day”. Students dressed up in the most wackiest outfits they could find! Some walked in with colored wigs, others in oversized glasses,  mismatched clothing, etc. Thursday was our “Pep Rally Day” a day we supported our athletic teams by representing our school colors. Friday we wrapped up the week’s festivities with a “Formal Day” in which students dressed to nines in suits, tuxedos, prom dresses. One of our students even wore a wedding dress! Our students showed tremendous school spirit and we look forward to making more great memories at Evangel Christian School in this upcoming school year.
