ABC

We have been learning the basic Spanish alphabet and how to pronounce every letter correctly. To enhance our learning the students have been creating a booklet of the alphabet with corresponding pictures that will help them to remember the sounds. We have also been learning new vocabulary words in order to have more knowledge for conversational Spanish.

mathinitiatives1Students are learning about expressions and equations this month. Not only are they solving problems, but they are learning how to read equations in  “word” form and write out an expression or equation. I am very proud of all of our 6th graders.

goodAll classes have been working on an autobiographical narrative (making revisions, adding similes, adjectives, and transition words). Students created many, original similes on their own and then illustrated one in color; these are posted on the bulletin boards. We also  began working on poetry and rhyme schemes. Students wrote a poem about school at least eight lines long and made it rhyme. I am very proud of our Middle Schoolers. Great Job Guys!

unashamedFebruary topic was taking a stand for Christ and not being ashamed of the good news. Having the courage to share what Jesus has done for us. We looked at Joshua in order to learn from his courage. In Joshua 1 God had to tell Joshua to be strong and courageous. Joshua took these words to heart and conquered a majority of the Promised Land. In the last chapter he takes a stand for God and, echoes these famous words, “Choose this day who you will serve. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”.

Singing, Dancing, Eating, Rapping, Performing, and Sharing were all a part of our Academic Fair which took place on Thursday, March19 th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. What an exciting evening it was for all – students and visitors alike. Students in all grades had been working feverishly since January on their projects and reports and as you walked aroung the school the aroma of wonderful foods filled the air. Foods from India, Africa, Guatemala, and many, many more countires were represented. THe sounds of students talking with visitors, projects humming, music playing, and students reciting were all sounds that filled that evening. There were many different sections to the Fair: Technolgy, Dance, Art, Science, History, Health, Bible, English, Home Ec., Countries, and many more. Many students dressed up to represent a certain person, or country; there were also scientific dissections to witness. Students were so excited as they got the chance to explain their projects and research to our visitors – nearly 1,000! What a great job all teachers, staff, parents and students did! We applaud you and can’t wait until next year!

Ancient Greece is one of the topics students have studied. Students studied important Greek figures, such as Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. Towards the conclusion of our study, students were introduced to Philip II and Alexander the Great of Macedonia. They spent several days performing skits in which Alexander the Great fulfilled his father’s (Philip II) dream of conquering Greece and Persia.

Honoring your parents is one the topic students learned about in Bible. The class spent time learning about how Isaac obeyed Abraham even though Isaac would possibly die. Students pretended to be Isaac and wrote diary entries describing their outing with their father Abraham in which Abraham planned to sacrifice his son. We also learned that God is faithful and in this story God saved Isaac and provided a sacrifice.
