Students are learning the importance of covering our mouths and washing hands to limit the spread of germs. In addition, we are learning about how good bacteria helps in our bodies and all about bad bacteria.

November sees the 7th graders finishing the classic tale Island of the Blue Dolphins and the 8th graders finishing the true story of Christian Holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom in The Hiding Place. We will be culminating these stories with activities to bring to life what the students have read in the stories. By mid-November, the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be embarking on the wonderful journey with The Chronicles of Narnia series. The classes will each read one book from the series: The Silver Chair, The Magician’s Nephew, and The Last Battle. We’ll spend some time entering Thanksgiving vacation by watching one of the two recent Narnia movies that have come out. Bring your own popcorn!

November will be an exciting time for my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students as they truly apply what they are learning in an admirable way. We will be examining the correct way to compose different types of letters. Practicing in school is great, but what would make it even better? Blessing someone through it! For Thanksgiving, the students will be writing friendly letters to soldiers serving overseas. We will use this month in which we give thanks to say THANK YOU to those who serve our country and cannot be home with their loved ones. Would you like to join us in this effort? Please contact Mrs. Candelier if you would!

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” -Vince LombardiThis month in Gym we have begun our Team Handball Season and will continue it until November. The object of this game is to throw a “team handball” across the three-point line, past a goalie, and into the net. These games are highly intense being that rivalries have been sown from the year before. Whether students are playing goalie, defense, offense, or midfielder they are determined, focused, and resolute to win the game. Often that means jumping in the path of the ball. Even though these games are intense, students maintain a high level of sportsmanship thought the season.

Middle school started the year off by learning the History of Computers and where technology is going. They were shocked to find out how much money the first computer cost and that it was so big, it took up an entire room! We have also spent one class a week working on typing so they can eventually become expert typist.

November is fast upon us with many changes in the forecast. Students are now finding out what is really hard for them and what is easy. Those who have been bringing in copies of their classes from Edline already knew and have been working on improving weak areas. Students are also finding out the consequences of poor study habits verses good study habits. This month I will focus on test corrections, remediation and encouraging them to”… press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Sixth grade social studies students have spent the past two weeks learning about Ancient nations and empires, such as the Phoenicians, the Israelites, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, and the Persians. In the coming week students will be constructing individual timelines of these nations and empires.

For about a week and a half Bible students in 6th grade have been challenged to view themselves how God views them. This is to say, that God has uniquely designed each student in a special way and for a specific purpose. Bible students looked at the story of Gideon to see how God designed Gideon to deliver the nation of Israel from the hand of the Midianites, regardless of how incapable Gideon thought he was.

Students have been working hard with a chapter test last week and staring in on mean, mode, median and range this week. They continuously challenge me to be a better teacher by the questions they ask in class. We are all moving forward together and I am proud to say that in 6th grade math, students have been doing well as a whole with getting in their homework on time. Way to go 6th grade!!!

It’s a busy time in room 302 as the students are memorizing prepositions in grammar. Learning spelling rules and words, and ultimately learning how to be the best writers they can be. Do you know the four stages of the writing process or the aims or writing? Ask your seventh or eighth grader! Do you know the different types of sentences? Ask your sixth grader! I’d love for them to share their answers with you.
