Know Christ

We are currently practicing our songs for the Christmas Program! Students are excited and some looking forward to singing a solo while others are looking forward to singing nice and loud within their class groups. It will be a fun time and a time of reflection pointing to what this holiday season is all about, and how it is displayed through the words they are singing. As someone once said,

No Christ, No Christmas! Know Christ, Know Christmas!

November Update

November is a wonderful month. Many students have caught on to the study skills and are using time more effectively. Those who have been bringing in copies of their classes from Edline are progressing beautifully. This month will promote Resource as a Prepared Zone, a Mutual Respect Zone and a No NC Zone. On the lighter side the vocabulary game Blurt has been re-introduced to many of the students at the end of Spirit week. For our Thanksgiving bulletin board we talked about the different ways in which people perceive love and care; from the discussion Thanksgiving cornucopias were created using interesting, complex sentences that tie into thankful thoughts about what is meaningful to individual students. Finally, November is the time in which we encourage students to Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3

Tea Party Cartoons

The 7th Grade Social Studies class is working on the Road of Independence. Students have created cartoon strips on the events of the Boston Tea Party. These cartoons are written and drawn from their own point of view.

Posters

We worked on Do’s and Don’ts posters this month. The students, in groups, picked a topic of their choice such as “Improving your English” then created posters and presented their thoughts. Some advice from the ESL classroom on improving your English! Do make friends who speak English. Learn the local culture. But don’t stress too much and never give up! All posters are displayed in the classroom. Here are other topics the students came up with: Getting Good Grades, Losing Weight, Building Good Friendships, and Staying Healthy.

Cultural Explosion!

We enjoyed a week of cultural exposure.  We saw different costumes and traditional dress, tasted exotic foods from far away lands and learned about traditions.  We also had new students place pins in our world map located on the first floor as people enter our building.  This map represents all the countries our students come from – over 73 countries!

What do you see?

In 1665, Robert Hooke looked through a microscope and saw a cell for the first time. Mitosis is one form of cell reproduction. These are just two of the many things that students are discovering in 7th grade science class through experiments and study!

Colonies

Students are learning about the early North American Colonies. The students designed personal flags for one of the Middle Colonies. They used symbols and colors that were appropriate to represent it. They completed further study of colonial growth, economics, and colonial lifestyle. They then created menus of the food that would have been shared between the Indians and the Pilgrims (early settlers).
