Reader’s Oath – by Debra Angstead
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it’s the key
To growing up right.
I’ll read to myself,
I’ll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I’ll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
‘Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
Children and adults need time to unwind and enjoy the summer, so make summer reading fun! Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from reading (or learning) since students who engage in reading activities return to school refreshed, excited and ready to pick up where they left off. Also remember that most Evangel students have summer book reports to do so…
Here are some tips to make reading a positive experience:
Keep LOTS of reading material around the home –books, newspapers, magazines and always, the Bible
Read outdoors – at the park or beach
Read to your child (it doesn’t matter how old or young your child is!)
Let your child read to you (older children can read newspaper or magazine articles)
Visit the library, check your local library’s website for special reading-related
activities and age-appropriate book lists
Model reading – turn off the TV and each person reads his or her book
(including Mom, Dad, grandparent)
ASK them what they think about what they’ve read and LISTEN to what they say

Have a wonderful summer!
As a means of reviewing for the 7th grade final exam, students were split into groups of five. Each group competed in events like Historical Basketball, Wheel of Fortune, and Historical Timeline.
Mr. Sanchez
This month we concentrated on review and preparing for the end of the year. We closed the year out in prayer something the 7th grade class loves to do. It was neat looking back and seeing how much they have grown in God. They are not perfect – come on they are teenagers, but they do love God.
Mr. Lopez
During June, we completed the reading of the novel, Johnny Tremain, and we reviewed the key chapter events and themes for the Final Exam.
Mrs. Foster
During June, we completed Final Persuasive Essays (about TV’s influence) and reviewed and tested on paragraph and essay format. We also reviewed for Final Exams which included the aforementioned information, as well as similes and several sections of grammar.

7th grade has done extremely well this year in Spanish. They have learned so much. Their Spain project went very well, which helped them to learn about the country itself and the interesting cities they have to visit.
Mrs. Colon
Students in Middle School had an end of the year review game in which they split up into groups, gave their team a name and worked together to answer questions based on what they learned this year. It was a fun way to review.
Miss Arnau
During the month of June the 7th graders began reviewing for their final Science exam. All the students completed their review packets in class or at home and then the class got to play a review game to help them see what they knew for the Final. The class actually earned points to be added onto their Final test grade because of how much information they were able to answer from the review packet. After the last test the students have been enjoying time with their friends before the summer break starts.

: During the month of May the 7th graders finished their unit on Staying Healthy. The students became experts with the Food Pyramid and definitely became more health conscious in the cafeteria as they ate their lunches each day. It is great to see the students more aware about the food they put in their body because they know the effects that good and bad food can have.
Mrs. Prawel
It’s the final stretch to finals! June finds the Resource very busy as students finish all their unfinished work, refresh their study skills, do preps for tests, and work on review sheets. Diligence is finally taking over. Many have improved in study habits and the self-managing skills that will make test taking go a little smoother
As the end of school nears I get teary eyed reflecting on the accomplishments of these students – especially as I make out the awards for the Awards Chapel. I ‘m glad to see so much progress in so many ways especially in their attitude toward success. “[They] can do all things through Christ who strengthens [them]”Phil 4:13.
