Students are finishing up the year learning how to be healthy! We have exhausted the human body by learning all about how it works and what disease can do to it, so now we need to learn how to keep our bodies healthy. We will be viewing “Supersize Me” as well as watching our diets and testing the caloric intake to see how we stack up to the nutritional guidelines.

April was a busy month in the computer lab. One of the highlights was when the students were able to participate in Administrators Professional Day. Middle School and High School students made cards using Microsoft Publisher and later were presented to the staff. The students expressed their gratitude to these hard working individuals and used the computer lab to make these memories.

7th grade recently watched a video for Bible class called “How Great Is Our God Tour”. This video showed the students how amazing our God is through the universe but above all through our own bodies. We also learned that none of us were a mistake, but predestined and thought about before the foundations of the earth! Learning how special we all are in our Father’s eyes went hand in hand with our lesson on Confidence. Our confidence comes through Him alone, always being reminded that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Students spent time learning about the new American nation that was led by President George Washington. Students studied the emergence of political parties, as well as controversies within the new nation, such as the creating of the first national bank.

After reading excerpts from Through Gates of Splendor the students chose a character to create. They have decorated paper dolls to look like the character. Then they researched to person and found ten interesting facts about them. Finally they presented their character to the entire class. Stop by to see the characters hanging around RM. 204

Students learned about percents through a “Shoppers Challenge.” Students had to create a store with products that they sold and discounted. They also had to purchase products from other students and they had to figure out what their final cost would be after a percentage was taken off. It has been a great learning experience.

Middle School is working on Mood Paintings. Students are choosing a word that describes a feeling and are painting an abstract picture using brush strokes and colors to portray the mood. Middle Schoolers are having a great time choosing colors and words.

All classes have been working on an autobiographical narrative (making revisions, adding similes, adjectives, and transition words). Students created many, original similes on their own and then illustrated one in color; these are posted on the bulletin boards. We also began working on poetry and rhyme schemes. Students wrote a poem about school at least eight lines long and made it rhyme. I am very proud of our Middle Schoolers. Great Job Guys!
