world_connected_hg_clr7th grade has been busy in computer lab, through the combination of History and Computers. Mr. Miller and Mr. Sanchez put together a project in which the students used their knowledge of computers to help understand their section in History class. The students used Google to research their topic and then designed posters and/or political cartoons to illustrate what they learned. Overall the project was a success in many ways because of the new skills acquired in computer lab, and the historical knowledge gained in History class.
Mr. Miller

9cb3b1d8455bce65f66921300d092e1b_69652The topic we hve been studying in Bible is being lost. Most of the world is lost and aware, meaning they know something’s missing. One author said, “We each have a God shaped hole in our hearts that only God can fill”. We try to fill that hole with all sorts of things but only God can fill that void. Next we talked about lost and who cares for  them. This describes a lot of our culture today, there’s a knowledge of Jesus but seldom is there conformity to Jesus. Finally we looked at Luke 15, one of the greatest displays of God’s heart for the lost. If you’re lost He wants to find you. Its not God’s desire that any should perish. So God is looking and calling and 5E is listening.

honestOne of  the topics we are studying in Bible is Honesty. We discussed the importance of the truth. Jesus tells Pilate in John that His purpose for coming into this world is to testify to the truth. There is a battle between truth and the lies of the enemy. Truth and honesty are very important to God but they must also be very important to us.

Singing, Dancing, Eating, Rapping, Performing, and Sharing were all a part of our Academic Fair which took place on Thursday, March19 th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. What an exciting evening it was for all – students and visitors alike. Students in all grades had been working feverishly since January on their projects and reports and as you walked aroung the school the aroma of wonderful foods filled the air. Foods from India, Africa, Guatemala, and many, many more countires were represented. THe sounds of students talking with visitors, projects humming, music playing, and students reciting were all sounds that filled that evening. There were many different sections to the Fair: Technolgy, Dance, Art, Science, History, Health, Bible, English, Home Ec., Countries, and many more. Many students dressed up to represent a certain person, or country; there were also scientific dissections to witness. Students were so excited as they got the chance to explain their projects and research to our visitors – nearly 1,000! What a great job all teachers, staff, parents and students did! We applaud you and can’t wait until next year!

After the Revolutionary War, the young nation of America found itself at a crossroad with many decisions to make. Students learned about how America made important decisions that continue to affect us today, such as the establishment of the United States Constitution, with its three branches: the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary.

the-human-body1

The seventh graders are going through a crash course for medical school as they explore the human body and all 11 organ systems that make up the body. Students have been working hard to become experts on one system so that they can teach their fellow classmates about it through a presentation. The students have produced quite fabulous work so far with creative projects like sculpting a bone and magnifying a layer of skin, to get a close up look. The hands-on approach (students are choosing any way they would like, to present, about their organ system) has really allowed the students to excel in areas that they are strong in (art, oral presentation, writing-creating worksheets), which has shown in their excellent work. We are trying to eventually put all our work together to create a life-size human body!

aeropuerto1

In Middle School students learned vocabulary associated with air travel and airports. They learned the present tense of verbs with the present progressive and the verbs conocer and saber. Students used vocabulary relating to airports and travel activities. Many activities were designed to help the students use the vocabulary in reading comprehension, listening and speaking.

pray_

As overseer of Chapel, it has been my desire to see the hearts of our students be drawn closer to our Lord and Savior. The Lord has been faithful to hear my heart’s cry. There has been such a growth and hunger in our students to worship God and carry out His purpose for their lives. From Elementary to High School, there has been  steady growth and our Spiritual Focus for the year has truly been our anthem:
Philippians 3:13 NIV
“I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Please continue to pray for our chapel services. We need to continue to ask God to open our children’s hearts and minds, we need the Lord to anoint our worship teams and we need God to empower every speaker who shares.

johnny-tremain-book

We’ve been reading the novel Johnny Tremain. Students have been reading in class and some at home, as well as answering comprehension questions and taking notes on the characters. Additionally, we’ve had some class discussions about the cultural/historical situation of the story, which is the coming Revolutionary War. Students were challenged to express their opinions about two questions: 1) Were the American colonists disobeying Scripture by rebelling against authority? Explain why or why not. 2) Is it ever right to rebel against authority? If so, when? If not, why? Students had to back up their opinions with Scripture and quotations given in their Study Guides. What a great debate it was!

writing3

In English classes, we have been going through the writing process for an Autobiographical Narrative. We have done brainstorming, prewriting, drafting, and revising so far. Students have done peer editing and revising using color to locate and add adjectives, adverbs, and similes. The goal of revision has been to add imagery and descriptiveness.
