Resource Room I really want to keep my students on task and not loose momentum, however, in some cases we have to start rebuilding momentum. In the aftermath of Academic Fair the classes evaluated how they did by going through each rubric and comparing what are the differences in the requirements for a “D”, “C”, and an ”A” research paper. A hindsight view of “what’s it all about” will also be explored by evaluation.

Eight grade students concluded their study of World War II by learning about the Holocaust. Students watched a personal testimony of a man who survived the Holocaust. Students were appalled by the racism exhibited by Germany against the Jews, the dehumanizing conditions Jews faced in concentration camps, and the devastating legacy the Holocaust has left on the Jewish people.

As the year ended, the students in computer lab mastered one last part of technology. The students learned how to use Microsoft Publisher 2007. Microsoft Publisher is a program where you can make greeting cards, signs, and more. Some of the middle school students even got the privilege of making cards for their mom’s to celebrate mothers day last month.

The Creative Writing Festival is an annual event held by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) where students can use their written talents to express themselves. Entries are first judged on a district level and those receiving a score of “Superior” (the highest possible) are then sent to the regional level.
Evangel had the honor of having three of our students sent to the regional adjudication. On the regional level, each of these three received marks of “Excellent” and therefore will be showcased in a Creative Writing Booklet published by the ACSI Northeast Regional Office.
The students are Jennifer Munoz of 4L, Lauren Vicuna of 8F, and Stephanie Reis of 11C. We are so proud of their hard work and congratulate them on their expressive writing!Mrs. Candelier
Students have been learning about summer and winter activities. The majority of the class loved talking about things they do in the summer compared to winter. So we decided to do a project in class by creating a vacation brochure. They made a brochure of know places and places they made up to create either the best winter or summer vacation.

The superheroes have arrived in Room 204. Be on the look out for the superheroes that the Middle School Reading Lab students created. We have read about many types of different characters throughout this year, so for the final project of the year the students had to create their own superhero character. Those superheroes are now hanging around room 204. Stop by and you will see Superkid, Peace Chick, Rubberband Man, J-Blaze, CC Woman and many others.

READING: We’ve been reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, the novel by Mildred D. Taylor. The story depicts life for African Americans in the South in the 1930’s (pre-civil rights). Students have read aloud in class, and they have read some at home on their own. In addition, students have participated in good class discussion of the events and issues brought up in the novel.

ENGLISH: During this month, students read several articles about the controversial issue of pro athletes making too much money. Then, students brainstormed the pros and cons of this issue. Next, they wrote a rough draft essay using a step-by-step packet. Students implemented quotations from the articles to support their stance on the issue. Finally, after I read over their rough drafts, they wrote a final, persuasive, 5-paragraph essay with three reasons supporting their thesis.

This month we discussed the topic of inconsistencies. We looked at the life of Peter and his up’s and down’s. We talked about Jesus being our cornerstone and foundation. If we trust in him he will bring His consistencies into our lives.
