Earth Science!
What an explosive month. We are learning about volcanoes this month. Volcanoes are classified into 3 types depending on their shape and how they were made. We also discussed the causes and effects of volcanic eruptions.

Finish the race
Students finished up the year with the last two lessons in their workbook which were the lessons on the life of Paul. In these lessons we learned again the importance of standing up for truth. In this lesson we were first introduced to a man who did not serve God and actually persecuted those that did. God got a hold of Paul and he changed his life. Students learned that Paul didn’t start well but he was determined to finish well. What a powerful lesson to learn as they finish the 8th grade. As we moved into June we began our study guides for the final. This was a busy time for the students as they were preparing for other finals as well.

Take a Stand for the Truth
Students have been discussing the lives of Shadrach, Meshac, and Obednego. Three Hebrew boys that were taken from their homes. As in the month before where we studied Daniel these three men were friends and they too understood the importance of standing for truth. The students learned that these men were thrown into a fiery furnace for believing in God. As with Daniel God saved them as well. We learned that as they were brought out of the furnace that their clothes didn’t even smell like smoke. The students learned that no matter the outcome we must stand for the truth.

Daniel
In the Month of March the 8th grade Bible class studied the life of Daniel. This young man was a great example of how to live your life in truth no matter what the consequences may be. We learned that Daniel was willing to stand up for the truth even if it would cost him his life. As you know, Daniel was thrown into a den of lions, but God spared his life and as a result the king saw who God truly was.

Celebrate
After all the hard work the students did learning their dances, we decided to celebrate and have a party!

Put It Like That
The students always started out on isolations, to warm up every part of their body. Then they worked on the basic dance steps for the songs that they were going to be dancing to. For the Christmas program the song the students danced to was Put It Like That. The students had a great time.

Origami
Pythagorean’s theorem to the rescue! Studying trigonometry and right triangles can be very abstract. We used peg boards & rubber bands to make different size triangles to calculate angle and height measures. We investigated right triangles and perfect square patterns using graph paper and origami.

Pre Algebra
My class discovered the use of percents as not only how I find their grade point average (GPA), but also how restaurants find their sales tax amount and how customers find their tip total. We practiced placing orders and calculating tax plus tip.

π day!!!
Or approximately 3.14159… We couldn’t wait for March 14th or 3/14 to get here! The class played discovery games with cylinders and circles. We practiced area and circumference to find patterns. They even learned a song that sings the first 200 places of pi!

Probability
Probability is always a fun topic. My class used playing cards, spinners, marbles, colored chips, dice, other students, etc. to come up with and solve probability equations. Unearthing Patterns that would lead to solving problems without hands-on equipment.
