Computer Class
The 9th grade classes have been using Microsoft Power Point to show their creative side. They designed 2 slides each, for our whole class slide show, which reveals what they consider to be most important thing to them. We have also begun practicing questions for the Living Environment and Algebra regents which they will take in June 2010. The students are practicing their on-line researching skills along with their ability to site internet sources correctly when they use information from a site.
Miss Stahler

This year’s Spirit Week has been the best so far! Our Middle School and High School students showed tremendous school spirit by participating in this event. Monday was “Flashback Day”. Students were able to dress up in clothing from a different era. We had students represent the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, and earlier periods. This was absolutely the best way to kick off a fun-filled week. Tuesday we had “Multiplicity Day.” Students were able to dress alike as twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. We even had a pair of students dressed as the Super Mario Brothers! On Wednesday we had “Wacky Hair, Feet and Wear Day”. Students dressed up in the most wackiest outfits they could find! Some walked in with colored wigs, others in oversized glasses, mismatched clothing, etc. Thursday was our “Pep Rally Day” a day we supported our athletic teams by representing our school colors. Friday we wrapped up the week’s festivities with a “Formal Day” in which students dressed to nines in suits, tuxedos, prom dresses. One of our students even wore a wedding dress! Our students showed tremendous school spirit and we look forward to making more great memories at Evangel Christian School in this upcoming school year.

Faces Painted, School Colors, Pom Poms, Screaming, Yelling, Balloons, Contests, and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much Fun – this describes our Pep Rally on Thursday, November 19th. Our athletes were greeted by loud cheers as they crashed through homemade signs. Students were so excited and full of School Spirit as they adorned blue and silver garland and had Mrs. Kemp and Mrs. Arnau paint beautiful eagles on their faces. Our athletes were spurred on to “be the best that they can be” this year. A great big “thank you” to Mr. Wong, our Athletic Director, for making this year’s Pep Rally such a huge success.

November is a wonderful month. Students are now finding out what is really hard for them and what is easy. Many are studying and using time more effectively. Those who have been bringing in copies of their classes from Edline are some of the students who have progressed the most. However some students are finding out the consequences of poor study habits verses good study habits. This month I will focus on test corrections, remediation and encouraging them to”… press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Operation Christmas Child Visits Evangel
Operation Christmas Child, a ministry under Samaritan’s Purse, asks people to fill shoe boxes with items and love yearly, to distribute to children in need around the world. From basic essentials like toothbrushes and bars of soap to fun activities like crayons and flash cards, people around the world give a little bit of hope to children who may not otherwise have any.
Evangel Christian School continued our tradition of packing shoe boxes. On Friday, November 13th we dedicated these shoe boxes to the Lord at our chapel services. Students shared testimonies about what packing a shoebox meant to them. We prayed that these shoe boxes would reach their destinations and that the child whose hand a shoebox landed in would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
We then received the honor of having a film crew from Operation Christmas Child come to Evangel on Tuesday, November 17th to film our students praying over their shoe boxes. Selected students also went up to our roof to shoot various plugs for OCC! This footage will be used in future Operation Christmas Child promotional videos. How exciting! The OCC film crew and staff were impressed with our children’s enthusiasm and the abundance of shoe boxes collected. Colorful posters and even some students wearing self-made t-shirts graced the sanctuary for all to know that Evangel loves Operation Christmas Child!
In total, 211 shoeboxes were packed and more than $800 (that could be visibly seen in a shoebox) in donations were collected. These donations cover the shipping costs for each of the shoe boxes.
More than 69 million children world-wide have been impacted by Operation Christmas Child and Evangel is so proud to be a part of this. Check out pictures from our chapel and the film crew coming to visit in the Galleries section of our website!
We pray that many children will be blessed this Christmas season! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this event a success!
Beyond the Calling
Beyond the Calling, a hip-hop group that was actually formed at Evangel Christian School over two years ago, ministered at our High School Chapel. Melanie Chong and Luis Alers are alumni and Joaquin Pardo and Ryan Diaz are in 12th grade at ECS. This group has written several songs such as, “Ain’t Ashamed,” “Ain’t My Home,” “Spiritual Love” and “Slave to Righteousness”.
Beyond the Calling’s purpose and mission is to get the Message out to all – through the Word and Music. They feel that there are two callings. The one that God has for His children as well as the calling the World offers. They feel they need to live beyond the calling of the world, hence the name of their group and the focus of their ministry.
God really used this group to minister to our students and to challenge them to live above the world.
Beyond The Calling is scheduled to release their debut album Spring 2010.
Two Step Equations
In 9th grade, we have begun to solve equations with two steps. We will continue to work on the same skills, but will tackle more and more difficult equations as we work towards the Chapter 3 test on Nov 10th.

Student Government

What an exciting election we had for this year’s Student Government race!
The candidates were extremely creative and strategic in their campaigning techniques. Some students had clever posters, others provided voters with lollipops with campaign slogans and some just spoke to fellow students on a one to one basis asking for support.
On Election Day – Friday, October 23rd, candidates had the opportunity to give their speeches. Most made promises to make Evangel Christian School a better place for its students
After hearing all the speeches from candidates, students were able to vote, and after tallying all the ballots, the students of Evangel Christian School voted in Jonathan Bonifas as their President, Guillermo Rosario as the Vice President, Sean Villalba and Ryan Diaz as their Co-Treasurers and Ashley Perez as Secretary.
Next week the Student Government officers will go around classrooms to vote in two class representatives from each class.
We are looking forward to this government’s leadership and positive impact in our school!

Regular Spanish
We are using what we have learned in conversations and writing. We are now formulating sentences and questions. We are using those to inquire information of others. We are also identifying and inquiring about what people are doing. It is getting difficult but we can do it.
