Enrichment Class
Researching, writing, and thinking… oh my. Every class is learning a lot of information about each groups “technology.” The students will be researching their technology in the areas of history and current technology. The groups will be writing interesting paragraphs to further finish their projects. After that, the teams will continue on to the areas of breakthroughs and consequences. Each student is thinking of ways to further their project into a thing worthy of each persons ability. Here’s a fun and easy riddle: What is it that someone has to take before you can get it? … The answer is: Your picture.

Regular Spanish
This Spanish class is an introduction to the basic structures and vocabulary of the Spanish language. We use the Rosetta Stone Program. We are learning from basic survival Spanish to identifying objects. We started creating our own word bank/picture dictionary to remember the new vocabulary words we learn everyday.

International Week
China. India. Mexico. Brasil. Nepal. Switzerland. Peru. Spain. These are just some of the 73 countries beautifully represented by our students and staff and Evangel Christian School. We held our semi-annual International Week to celebrate the heritages of our families. This year, our celebration took place from October 19th through October 23rd. Throughout the week, students had opportunities to research one or more countries that their families are from, present objects or pictures from their country to their classmates, and dress in their flag’s color or in an outfit native to their land. The highlight was definitely the food sharing portion of International Week where students brought in a dish to share with their peers. From “arroz con pollo” to “roti” and “flan” to a “guarana” drink, both students and staff alike appreciated the delicious and rich culture they got to partake in. We culminated our week by bringing students and staff down to the huge world map located right beyond our main entrace where they put a pin in the city and country they are from. On Friday, the last day of the event, we held a special missions-oriented chapel where an alumnus, Joseph Lee, talked about his parents who are missionaries to Indonesia and showed a slide presentation of their work there. Check out the wonderful pictures in “galleries” and be blessed as you see the excitement on the student’s faces as they show pride in their heritage!
This month we began a chapter that deals with train travel. The students have begun a special project that will help them exercise their vocabulary learned. We are making a model, poster
or collage of a train station labeling every part of it and will be presenting it in class. Students are required to do the presentation in Spanish and give a step by step explanation of their experience traveling by train. It should be interesting to see the final product and to hear them practicing their Spanish with their peers!

Mr. Berrios
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once said, “One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team.” Teamwork is just one lesson that our students need to learn in order to become successful in life. Whether they go on to become a professional athlete, doctor, lawyer, business man, teacher, etc, they need to learn how to get along and work side by side with their peers despite their differences. Through sports, students learn that they are just one part of a whole and in order for the team to function they all need to contribute.

In 9th grade we are learning all about salvation. Why we need it, how we attain it and the effect it has on our lives.
Mr. Lopez
In the month of October, the English 9th grade class has been making our way through “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens. Although the reading may be challenging due to the author’s language and numerous vocabulary words, the story is captivating and allows frequent opportunities to survey our life as it stands today. We have engaged in lively discussions which included the topics of: ‘How do you want to be remembered’, ‘How can you strive to live a life free of regrets’, ‘If you could change one thing in your life, what might that be’, as well as other similar topics of discussion. Usually there are so many responses; the discussion has to be cut off at some point, as we need to move on. We are spending much focus and proceeding with continuous momentum in this novel, because we have a goal to reach and prize to gain, which is to go to the theatre and view the movie on November 9th!

In 9th grade Algebra, we have been discussing real numbers. We have learned of their properties and about some of the interesting things real numbers can (and can’t) do. We will take a test on Wednesday and begin solving linear equations.
