9th grade presented their skit for chapel this past Friday. All 9th grade homerooms helped put together an amazing performance that reached our student body in an intense way. This skit demonstrated how each of us wear different masks to hide our true identity, but when we turn to Jesus we find out who we are in Him.

This month we read a short story called “Mi querida Cunada” which the kids seemed to enjoy very much. We practiced reading aloud and independently and had interesting discussions in class. The students did a lot of compositional writing describing what they understood of the story.

We just finished our chapter on Imperialism and its effects on the world. We specifically discussed the motives of Europeans as they went out and conquered South America, Africa, and Asia. Many of the students began to make connections between the present and the past, when they realized that the reason many of them speak the languages they do today are because of imperialism, (Puerto Ricans speaking Spanish or Brazilians speaking Portuguese). To finish this section we watched a movie called Last Samurai, the students were very excited by this. The movie illustrated the period in which traditional Japan met modern Japan and the conflict it created for the Japanese feudal society. We move onto Indian Independence next.

Evangel’s Freshman class has travelled along the exciting road that Ted Dekker paved for them. They thoroughly enjoyed reading Blink of an Eye’s action packed plot, memorable characters, and engaging themes. They continue to explore the manner in which Dekker employed the literary elements in his work and will put their critical thinking skills to the test through Socratic discussion and literary analysis!

9th Grade just began a unit on Imperialism. Everywhere in the world the affects of Imperialism can be seen both in looking at the past and the present. The class has been discussing and reading about Imperialism and how it affected nations like China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, etc. We have had some great discussions on the positives and negatives of Imperialism and looking at it from both perspectives.

Singing, Dancing, Eating, Rapping, Performing, and Sharing were all a part of our Academic Fair which took place on Thursday, March19 th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. What an exciting evening it was for all – students and visitors alike. Students in all grades had been working feverishly since January on their projects and reports and as you walked aroung the school the aroma of wonderful foods filled the air. Foods from India, Africa, Guatemala, and many, many more countires were represented. THe sounds of students talking with visitors, projects humming, music playing, and students reciting were all sounds that filled that evening. There were many different sections to the Fair: Technolgy, Dance, Art, Science, History, Health, Bible, English, Home Ec., Countries, and many more. Many students dressed up to represent a certain person, or country; there were also scientific dissections to witness. Students were so excited as they got the chance to explain their projects and research to our visitors – nearly 1,000! What a great job all teachers, staff, parents and students did! We applaud you and can’t wait until next year!

In High School, students learned to describe their family and home. They learned vocabulary associated with family members and housing. They learned to use the verb tener to describe what kind of family and house they have. They also learned the possessive adjectives – our focus was the importance of family.
