Ninth grade Spanish is learning about school and the many names for classes available in school. They are learning to tell time and express their opinions. By doing this we learn how to describe people and things.
We have gone back the past two weeks and reviewed old material so that we can continue with harder concepts in Algebra. The areas we have covered are multiplying and dividing decimals as well as “Order of Operations,” or PEMDAS. (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) Because this is review, we are going through each concept in a day and then moving on as we continue to get deeper into Algebra.

Evangel’s ninth grade class began the year by introducing themselves with their fabulous “Bio-Poems” and setting high academic goals for obtaining success this year. Ask them to share their goals with you; I know they’d love to. Now, we are diving into the The Pearl with Kino. We’ll study all of the elements of plot and explore the theme of good vs. evil.
The past week in Living Environment we have been studying the biosphere. Students have had an up close look at the different interactions between organisms and their environment. The liveliest discussion we had all week was about the way that our waste moves nutrients back into our water and soil so that the different nutrient cycles can continue. Most students were shocked to know that we had waste plants that take our waste and get clean water from it. We are hoping to plan a trip sometime this year to view a waste plant. Hope the kids are ready for the smell!
9th Advanced Algebra – we are moving along through some review of basic algebra and getting into deeper issues of integers and the multiplicative inverse J Our classes are lively and fun as we explore some of the rules of Math and how we use them or see them almost every day.
Greetings from teh Middle School and High School Resource Room! The year has started out with a great sense of expectation. Because of last year’s success many students are looking forward to a better year. Students are beginning the year with great attitudes and a healthy desire to work hard in order to achieve higher goals. We are setting the groundwork for success first through prayer and second by covering the “10 easy steps” taught in the booklet “How to get Good Grades” by Linda O’Brien.
My name is Mr. Fowler and I will be teaching the Global I, Global II, and Economics classes this year. This year my 9th grade classes will be going over ancient and classical civilizations that helped shape our modern day civilization. We have been discussing ancient civilizations of the Middle East most recently. The student’s are very intrigued by the practices of these ancient civilizations especially the Egyptian’s mummification (I even had some student’s ask if they could be mummified today, to their disappointment I told them I knew of no companies which still mummified people).
September is one of my favorite months of the year. Some obvious reasons why, might be because I get to see my returning students, I get to meet new ones, and I get to set the tone for the rest of the year. These are among the main reasons I anticipate the start of the school year, but there is yet another reason I like September. And that reason is the “Fitness Test.” The Fitness Test is a New York State Test that measures student’s muscular strength and endurance. For one week, students have “Fitness Test Training,” where they are given a card with specific workouts and are expected to complete that card by the end of the class. For many students this card is an immovable mountain. They see what I expect of them and say, “Mr. Wong are you serious? Mr. Wong this is a joke right? Mr. Wong you’re a funny guy?” The truth is that I do have high expectations of my students and I take pride in pushing them further then they believed they could go. The conversations for the next couple of days are as follows, “I’m so sore, how about you? I cannot believe I actually finished ever thing on that card. Mr. Wong I have not worked out like that in months.” Little do they know that that’s music to my ears. It is not until the following week that they begin to realize the fruits of their labor. They understand why they were pushed so hard and how easy the Fitness Test actually is.
Hi, my name is Norma Pascualini and I am a new teacher here at Evangel. I feel very blessed to be given the opportunity to be a part of this great ministry. I hope to positively influence my students, not just academically, but also spiritually. My prayer is that together we would all grow in every area of our lives, as Christ would have us.I am a graduate of Jimmy Swaggert Bible College and have taught extensively in different areas of ministry. I have participated in a lot of missions work abroad, specifically in Spanish speaking countries. I also recently completed an intensive 2 year leadership course in Spanish designed to minister more effectively to God’s people and the world.
I am currently teaching 6th and 7th Grade Bible courses and 6th , 9th and 11th Spanish. We will be discovering new and exciting things this school year, in Bible as well as in Spanish and I will do my best to make it interesting and challenging for my students.
