Forensic Class
Students worked on how to identify questioned documents in cursive and in print. They worked in groups and tried identifying each other’s handwriting patterns. They even critiqued their own writings. They were able to examine how a person is indentified through their handwriting.

US History
As we studied the Civil War, we investigated the causes of conflict between North and South and learned that although slavery played a huge part in the War, so did the issue of states’ rights. Students performed Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and did a video activity on the American Presidents during the pre-Civil War and Civil War eras.

December is such a wonderful month as everything around us remembers the birth of our Savior. This year we added Advent reflections to devotional/prayer time. Our favorite passage by Dennis Bratcher was:
“We live in a world in which bigger and better define our expectations for much of life. We have become so enamored by super size, super stars, and high definition that we tend to view life through a lens that so magnifies what we expect out of the world that we tend not to see potential in small things. But as the prophet Zechariah reminds us (Zech 4:10), we should not “despise the day of small things,” because God does some of his best work with small beginnings and impossible situations.”
The students read them and came up with their own reflections, which graced our bulletin boards. They wrote them on angel shapes and decorated their version of an angel. It is always nice to see students using their creativity especially as a way to worship.
Enrichment Class
Happy New Year’s. I pray everyone had a safe Christmas break. The group projects are starting to heat up. Most of the research has been done and now the teams are writing or typing their final papers. When your child has their work online they will be able to show you what they have been working on. The research has made way for the English side of learning. The groups are continuing to write about this new technology. The artisan is about to push their way into the project when the group starts working on their simulated web pages. This simulated web page is all about their technology. If you child’s group wins the regional judging they will get the opportunity to create a web page that may be put on the internet. Examples of winning projects can be seen at: www.dmail.exploravision.org. Click on winning entries and scroll to the age group you would like to look at and click view winning website. Time is short and the deadline is coming soon. January 25th for the paper part of the project and February 2nd for the electronic part of the projects.

Computer Class
The 11th grade classes have been using Microsoft Power Point to show their creative side. They designed 2 slides each, for our whole class slide show, which reveals what they consider to be most important thing to them. We have also begun practicing questions for the US History regents which they will take in June 2010. The students are practicing their on-line researching skills along with their ability to site internet sources correctly when they use information from a site.

This year’s Spirit Week has been the best so far! Our Middle School and High School students showed tremendous school spirit by participating in this event. Monday was “Flashback Day”. Students were able to dress up in clothing from a different era. We had students represent the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, and earlier periods. This was absolutely the best way to kick off a fun-filled week. Tuesday we had “Multiplicity Day.” Students were able to dress alike as twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc. We even had a pair of students dressed as the Super Mario Brothers! On Wednesday we had “Wacky Hair, Feet and Wear Day”. Students dressed up in the most wackiest outfits they could find! Some walked in with colored wigs, others in oversized glasses, mismatched clothing, etc. Thursday was our “Pep Rally Day” a day we supported our athletic teams by representing our school colors. Friday we wrapped up the week’s festivities with a “Formal Day” in which students dressed to nines in suits, tuxedos, prom dresses. One of our students even wore a wedding dress! Our students showed tremendous school spirit and we look forward to making more great memories at Evangel Christian School in this upcoming school year.

Faces Painted, School Colors, Pom Poms, Screaming, Yelling, Balloons, Contests, and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much Fun – this describes our Pep Rally on Thursday, November 19th. Our athletes were greeted by loud cheers as they crashed through homemade signs. Students were so excited and full of School Spirit as they adorned blue and silver garland and had Mrs. Kemp and Mrs. Arnau paint beautiful eagles on their faces. Our athletes were spurred on to “be the best that they can be” this year. A great big “thank you” to Mr. Wong, our Athletic Director, for making this year’s Pep Rally such a huge success.

Resource Room
November is a wonderful month. Students are now finding out what is really hard for them and what is easy. Many are studying and using time more effectively. Those who have been bringing in copies of their classes from Edline are some of the students who have progressed the most. However some students are finding out the consequences of poor study habits verses good study habits. This month I will focus on test corrections, remediation and encouraging them to”… press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

The Juniors have toured the periodic table looking for patterns and trends. They have also studied ionic and metallic bonds.
