Chemistry
In chemistry the students tried to reconstruct Mendeleev’s original periodic table by matching elements with similar properties. They realized it is not as easy as it looks.

Bible Class
This Bible class is a survey of the Old Testament. We started this class with the history of the Bible as a book, how we got the Bible. We discussed the canonization of the books of the Old Testament and those of the New Testament. The students were presented with indisputable evidence, recent archeological evidence, that gives proof of the veracity of the Bible and how it has remains the same, even after so many years of copying. We continued with an introduction to the Old Testament and the arrangement of the books. We then started with the events of Creation. The students did beautiful projects illustrating the days of creation according to Genesis 1-2.

Advanced Spanish
This Spanish class has finished with the curriculum for High School and is now following the curriculum “Dos Mundos” from McGraw Hills. This is a college curriculum. In this class, we are tying together all we have learned and we are working on our communication skills. It is our goal to develop our speaking skills so we may be able to communicate more effectively in the Spanish language. We have discussed how to give and obtain personal information, such as the name, age, and address. We have dealt with talking about our family and inquiring about other people’s family. We share in pairs, or as a class.

International Week
China. India. Mexico. Brasil. Nepal. Switzerland. Peru. Spain. These are just some of the 73 countries beautifully represented by our students and staff and Evangel Christian School. We held our semi-annual International Week to celebrate the heritages of our families. This year, our celebration took place from October 19th through October 23rd. Throughout the week, students had opportunities to research one or more countries that their families are from, present objects or pictures from their country to their classmates, and dress in their flag’s color or in an outfit native to their land. The highlight was definitely the food sharing portion of International Week where students brought in a dish to share with their peers. From “arroz con pollo” to “roti” and “flan” to a “guarana” drink, both students and staff alike appreciated the delicious and rich culture they got to partake in. We culminated our week by bringing students and staff down to the huge world map located right beyond our main entrace where they put a pin in the city and country they are from. On Friday, the last day of the event, we held a special missions-oriented chapel where an alumnus, Joseph Lee, talked about his parents who are missionaries to Indonesia and showed a slide presentation of their work there. Check out the wonderful pictures in “galleries” and be blessed as you see the excitement on the student’s faces as they show pride in their heritage!
This month we began a chapter that deals with train travel. The students have begun a special project that will help them exercise their vocabulary learned. We are making a model, poster
or collage of a train station labeling every part of it and will be presenting it in class. Students are required to do the presentation in Spanish and give a step by step explanation of their experience traveling by train. It should be interesting to see the final product and to hear them practicing their Spanish with their peers!

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once said, “One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team.” Teamwork is just one lesson that our students need to learn in order to become successful in life. Whether they go on to become a professional athlete, doctor, lawyer, business man, teacher, etc, they need to learn how to get along and work side by side with their peers despite their differences. Through sports, students learn that they are just one part of a whole and in order for the team to function they all need to contribute.

History students have been learning about the Revolutionary War and the founding of our country, focusing specifically on the ideas of liberty and order. Is it better that a nation has a government of the people with mistakes, or a government led by a dictator who imposes order? Currently we are studying the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and learning how the Constitution fixed many of these weaknesses by creating a stronger national government.
