The Juniors have been studying scatter plots and lines of best fit. They have generated their own data for a scatter plot using a gumball rolling down an inclined plane. They recorded and graphed the height that the gumball was released and the distance the gumball traveled. They used their calculators to determine the line of best fit and then compared values read from the graph to values obtained in class.

We are seeing the foundations of the Women’s Rights movement as well as the Abolitionist movement in preparation for the Civil War. We will be discussing the final sectional issues that will tear our nation apart. We are going to finish this quarter on the eve of Lincoln’s election in 1860.

Students just completed their PSAT’s last week. Good job! We have been working on small business loans this week. We have been working together in class to use formulas to figure out the annual interest, principal and the term of the loan. They will be having a quiz on small business loans this week. Keep plugging away 11th grade.

Eleventh grade Spanish is learning to put into practice what they have learned over the past two years. We will be doing exciting projects to help reinforce this knowledge. This will enable the students to succeed when taking the regents test.

We have gone on pause with the balancing of checkbooks, keeping a checking account and so on due to the upcoming PSAT. Students have been working hard to study and prepare themselves for next week’s exam as they prepare themselves for SAT’s and the college life.

11th US History – we have been looking at the foundations of American society and government, from the colonial period to the Revolution and now the formation and implementation of the Constitution. We are noticing some of the rich history right here in NYC that the Dutch and the British left us (ie street names and cultural pockets).

Greetings from teh Middle School and High School Resource Room! The year has started out with a great sense of expectation. Because of last year’s success many students are looking forward to a better year. Students are beginning the year with great attitudes and a healthy desire to work hard in order to achieve higher goals. We are setting the groundwork for success first through prayer and second by covering the “10 easy steps” taught in the booklet “How to get Good Grades” by Linda O’Brien.

The students in 11th grade Chemistry started the year studying the signs of a chemical change. They were excited to see these changes take place right before their eyes in lab. When they mixed two clear solutions the chemical change resulted in bright blue, lime green, bright yellow, and magenta solutions and precipitates.
