In Psychology, we have been discussing the phenomenon of Memory. Have you ever tried to remember something and ever stated, “It’s right at the tip of my tongue”. Well this is part of trying to retrieve memorable events or words and is literally called, On the top of the Tongue Phenomenon. Studying Psychology helps students to slow down the process of mental processes and human behavior. One fun activity we did in class was recall promises that were broken. Students were able to retrieve that information really quickly. We are getting ready to enter into the chapter on Thinking and Language Development. It definitely gets better and better.

In Physics Lab students are designing a roller coaster out of Knex to wrap up our study of mechanics. Each team is responsible for a different aspect of the construction. Some are designing the loops, some are designing the tracks, and others are designing the roller coaster car for the track. The students will then study what worked and did not work with their design and make the necessary adjustment to provide a thrilling ride.

Math B students have been reviewing for their midterms and sharpening their skills.
They have also completed a math lab where they compared the walking speed of each class member measured as they walked the hall. They then compared this information with the theoretical walking speed as calculated by an athletic trainer. They analyzed the results and gave many reasons for the discrepancies.J

We have taken a journey to get to know Jesus. We started with his birth and all the events that surrounded his childhood. We have studied his ministry, his power, his teaching, his authority. We have seen his power to heal, to set the captives free, to command nature, to raise the dead. We have studied his teachings about the kingdom of Heaven, its nature, its subjects and Him, the ruler. After taken this great journey, we are now faced with the cross. We now understand that it was because of us he stayed at the cross, no one took his life but He laid His life for us, for His love. What great love!

Learning verb conjugations have been our toughest challenge this month, especially the imperfect past tense. The students were a little confused at first, but finally have gotten a good grasp of it. They are trying hard to use it in our classroom conversations. We have started reading the Psalms in Spanish aloud during our devotional time to get accustomed to hearing the language and practice listening skills.

As the semester comes to a close we have been wrapping up our study of Economics. This last chapter that we did was on budgeting and saving. As these students get ready to leave high school and get ready for the real world, they will need to learn how to save and budget their money. I’m hoping the students will understand the importance of saving their money and how their saving now could lead to much greater investments and rewards down the road. The assessment the students will do for their last exam will be writing a plan of how they would invest $10,000 dollars. They must demonstrate an understanding of the various methods of investment and explain why they have chosen their specific method; and most importantly how this is an illustration of good stewardship of our resources.

Happy New Year!
We look forward to a new year of hope – hope in the Lord and assurance that God has a perfect plan for each student.
January is an exciting time with new goals set for a new year and yet a difficult month with mid terms on the way, homework to stay on top of and the Academic Fair coming. In Resource Room we will be checking our goals and finding strategies with which we can realistically meet those goals. Now is the time for students, parents and teachers to truly work together as a team to help students set good goals and begin to achieve them. In I Corinthians 12: 24-27 the Bible says, “But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

As we were contemplating what theme to use to enter the Fall Door Decorating Contest, Caroline Kemp from 12Q came up with the idea of being thankful for our homes, our minds to think, our hearts to love and our courage to stand for what is right. With that, she thought of using The Wizard of Oz theme. As a class, we then began to work hard and decorate our entire classroom using trees, a backdrop that took up the entire back wall, and the students even created the Tinman and the Scarecrow. We had our very own Alexis Lazzaro play Dorothy and Taylor Estevez who play the Lion. Taylor even curled her hair to make it resemble a lion’s mane. We enjoyed quality time as a class and I am proud to say that every single student participated. Class 12Q received First place. I am so proud of how every student worked together, and made this class project a success.

We planned to present at chapel on December 19. The students came up with a game they called “Biblionaire” (after “Who wants to be a millionaire”) to encourage everyone to learn and test their knowledge of the Bible, and have fun doing it. Many things were changed at the last minute, and everything that could go wrong, did. We decided we were not going to be discouraged and prayed that God take control over all that had to be done and trusted in Him. The students in chapel enjoyed the game and had fun, which was what the students set out to do. We praise God for this and because he brought us through.

During December we have enjoyed sharing our talents in Christmas programs that portrayed the true meaning of Christmas; we have found encouragement from secret angels; and have even enjoyed the first real snow of the season. Students can learn that they have the ability to bless others and can give the gift of themselves. James 1 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created”. I pray that the Christmas break brings many blessings to each family. We certainly have God’s goodness to look forward to in the New Year.
