We are finishing “More than a carpenter” and looking at the evidences for the deity of Christ as well as who He is to us. As we look at the nativity scene and the implications of the life of Christ, we are drawn to the generosity and humility of such a savior. Hopefully He is more that a Savior, more than a name, more than a figure in History – He is Immanuel, God with us.

We are winding down the semester and looking towards our final exam. This week and through this holiday season, we are looking at social programs such as social security, welfare, Medicare and Medicaid and the implications that these programs have on our society. How do we provide for our needy yet foster the American Spirit that helped build this country? Have a pleasant holiday season with your family!

Physics students have almost completed mechanics. They have studied momentum and can now calculate the speed of bumper cars after a collision. After Christmas break they will move on to centripetal motion.

Math B students have finished studying trigonometry. They have worked hard these past four months learning about radians and how to calculate sine, cosine, and tangent without a calculator. They have started reviewing for the Math B regents and are working towards their goals.

Mr. Fowler’s Economics class has just recently finished the Stock Market Game. Six of the eight teams from 12W finished within the top fifty percentile, one team came in 138 out of 770 teams. I was very impressed with how well the students did and how they would research new products and look at how the market was doing. This game was a lot of fun and I hope that these students will in the future make investments with real money and understand the ideas and concepts that go into our Stock Market. We are working on Supply and Demand right now in class, which is a key concept in economics. The students have been coming up with their own examples of how the laws of demand and supply can be seen in America today.

During Thanksgiving week our school had many celebrations that included food and lots of fun. Fourth and Fifth grade had truly traditional Feasts. Students dressed as Pilgrims and Indians, gave thanks, and ate lots and lots of yummy food. Middle School and High School had huge feasts in the Fellowship Hall. There was a bounty of food, talent, and giving of thanks to the Lord for His many blessings. A great time was had by all. Make sure to “check out” galleries for lots of great pics.

The 12th grade Economics class has been playing the Stock Market Game using the Internet now for a month and half. The game has been a lot of fun for the students as they have bought and sold stocks with their fake money. Although the market has been rough students have been competing to see who will lose the least amount of money compared to will make the most, which has still been a lot of fun. In class we have been going over the various factors of production and discussing what it takes to become a successful company. Hopefully, these students will be the future business leaders of America and the information and experience they receive now will contribute to that success later on down the road.

The 12th Grade Class is getting ready for it’s Poetry Jam that will be held on November 4, during 3rd and 4th periods. Students will share some of their writing pieces. The theme is “A Black and White Affair”. Students have been working through their fears and their confidence. They are all eager and excited to participate in this event. I am so proud of this senior class and am confident they will shine like stars.

In Psychology class we have just learned about how our senses help us observe the world around us. We have been working extra hard in trying to open our minds to understand how we perceive the world using our senses. We learned about the importance of our senses and were even drawn to learn about how animals have a “super sixth sense” – which in reality, they do not, however, God has give them the ability to adapt to their surroundings and their senses become super sensitive during a time of danger. We even learned about how animals were saved during the Tsunami in Eastern Asia years ago. This was because they made it to safety as if they knew something horrific was coming. This is one of the awesome deeds of our Lord, who gives us what we need to survive, as well as animals.
