This spring, in Mr. Fowler’s class the 10th graders have been preparing for the Global Regents. We have gone over topics from the Enlightenment to the Fall of the Cold War. While going over the topic of World War II, we were able to debate the ethics of dropping the atomic bomb

8th grade Social Studies spent about two weeks on World War I. We reviewed the causes and reasons for the Great War occurring in Europe. In the beginning it was pure notes, but as the session went on the students were presented with certain hands on materials which were used during the war; i.e. a fold up shovel, Kevlar helmet, etc. From there we learned about the roaring twenties. The inventions such as the assembly line and electricity and causes of the economic boom in America were reviewed. The class has also been engaging in some intrinsically focused classes in regards to what it means to be a Christian and living a life focused on God. The students were given the opportunity to share their thoughts as well as write reflections about their thoughts. The class has grown tremendously since the beginning of the year and are eager for high school. – Mr. McCann

In 6th grade Social Studies the students have been learning about the Middle Ages and the social structure throughout the time period. The class was engaged in a stimulating demonstration showing the history of class structure, stemming from the lords down to the common peasant and how each class had a specific job. We then covered the Crusades and why they occurred. The students learned about great Christian missionaries throughout the time period as well, and how they suffered persecution for Christ. It really put into perspective the life of Christianity and an appreciation for those who have paved the way.

On May 14th the 6th grade class spent the day at the Hall of Science. Throughout the day the students were allowed to travel around the Hall of Science in search of a special exhibit they enjoyed. Once they found the exhibit they liked, they had to write about what the exhibit demonstrated scientifically and then explain why they liked the exhibit above the rest. Students enjoyed exhibits such as throwing baseballs under radar, the effects of friction, the warmth of asteroids, and the use of mirrors and light. The students had a great time and looked forward with great anticipation attending the Hall of Science again. Everyone had a good time. – Mr. McCann

High School Spring Celebration
The High School students of Evangel Christian School did a wonderful job ministering at Evangel Church this past May. The Worship Team lead the congregation in several songs and the dance team did a beautiful job dancing to “Mighty to Save” and “Lord You Are Holy”. The seniors also shared clips of their recent senior missions trip to Spain. It was a great time in the presence of God. – Mrs. Aileen Torres

High School Worship Elective – Mrs. Torres
This was my first year as the worship elective teacher. It was an awesome experience to say the least. Our time was spent in prayer and seeking the Lord as well as in worship. I realized that my priority as a worship teacher was not solely to prepare songs for Chapel, but more importantly, to encourage and challenge the worship team to not rely on their gifting alone, but above all things to draw near the “gift giver.” I feel we have a ways to go, but I am confident in this – “He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:5-7

This track season I had the honor and privilege of working with nineteen gifted athletes. From the first day of tryouts they were told that once on the team they would be pushed far beyond what they believed to be their limits. Tryouts consisted of two solid hours of track drills, which were designed to see what kind of shape the athlete was in. To be a member of the track team one had to be hard working, dedicated, motivated, and have self-confidence. There is no glory in Track and Field, no pep rallies, no home crowd to cheer you on. Track and Field is solely about individual talent and constantly striving to be better than the previous day. Throughout the season these athletes were tested both mentally and physically. They were challenged and asked to perform far beyond what they believed they could handle. But time and time again they rose to the occasion and proved how much they wanted to be a part of the team. For most of the athletes on track, this season was one that established in their mind that they could stick with and preserver through any obstacle and that giving up was not an option. – Mr. Wong

The soccer club continued this year as an after school event every Thursday for the few devoted athletes who wanted to travel to a nearby park and brave the cold weather. We honed our skills as well as scrimmaged to practice any newly learned skills. I am proud of the students who came out to learn the sport for the first time and also those students who are quite the experts and wanted to share their knowledge and love for the game with others. It was fun to have a group of kids so excited to participate in an extra curricular activity. – Miss Lawrence

Music Elective/Studio Production – Mr. Caal
This year our Studio Production elective has truly blurred the lines between electives and ministry. The goal of the Studio Production Elective was to expose our students to the basics of ewquencing, multitrack recording, and basically “making beats”. Our current group of students taking this elective (aka BTC-Beyond the Calling), have not only ministered here in our school, but also at various “Big Houses” around the tristate area. With God all things are possible! Keep BTC in prayer as they prepare to minister in the summer of ’08.

This year has been our pilot year for a “computerized” Spanish class. Although currently limited to beginners, our 10th graders were exposed to this new type of learning environment. Liicenses were purchased from “Rosetta Stone” anad enabled us to use their world renowned software. Needless to say, our students loved it. Who says learning a new language can’t be fun!? – Mr. Caal
