Our 9th grade Bible class is wrapping up our “Dynamic Christian Living” course. We could say that this course provides the basic building blocks of Christianity. Our closing topics have included witnessing, making right choices, principles of daily living, and even dating within Biblical standards. – Mr. Caal

Our 10th grade Bible class has been continuing our study on the Life of Christ. Although our textbook is filled with countless facts and commentary, it is the words of Christ that make an impact! Most of our class discussions were based on the very words spoken by Christ, words that to this day speak to hearts of men.

Our 9th grade classes have been delving into the world of HTML. HTML is the language used to construct documents viewable on the internet. Our students have taken great interest in our final project, which is to construct their very own web page! I have seen pictures, videos and music embedded within their web pages. It’s music to my ears to hear them excited and proud of their work. We may even post the best web pages on our website!

Several times during the year we had a Sharing Snack: each child brought a special snack to share with classmates. We munched on many yummy things! Our class was a fun place to be!

We make Science fun in Pre-K 3. As we learned each letter of the alphabet, our students in Pre-K 3 enjoyed participating and observing a special experiment with each letter. In the month of March, we worked very hand to find out how an ocean in a bottle is made. Why does the plastic bag not spring a leak? How does the helicopter fly? And other interesting science facts, Our little scientists had a lot of fun exploring and finding answers.

Every Friday, Pre-K 3 students looked forward to being part of prayer time and worshipping together. On February 1st, our students had the opportunity to share a beautiful story from the Bible. Samuel was called by God and he obeyed Him. He shared His Word to others. Speak, Lord. I am your servant, and I am listening. I Samuel 3:10. Samuel became a good helper. We talked about the different talents that God gives us to help each other and be kind to one another. The students portrayed a cook, a policeman, and a firefighter as our special community helpers. On April 4th, students shared a second story from the Bible. Celebrating Earth Day, our students shared the beautiful creation story. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. We explained how important it is to take good care of our blessed home that God created for us. Mountains, oceans, forests, creatures of all kind and the air we breath were given to us with love. Let us show God how much we appreciate it.

Pre-K 3 students visited Alley Pond Environmental Center on June 12. We enjoyed a wonderful time and a beautiful day at the center. Students were able to touch a few cute creatures that God created and are found in this pond. We saw and touched a small chick that was restless and wanted to explore. Students touched his soft young feathers. The students touched the strong shell that helps a turtle to protect himself from rough weather and predators. An interesting looking lizard caught PK 3 students’ attention. It looked kind of serious but was really kind to all of us when we touched his scales and long nails. The cutest of all was, without a doubt, a big black bunny rabbit. It felt soft to touch. To end our visit, the children stamped lots of footprints with a big smile on their faces. Parents and students had a terrific time.

Pre-K 3 students went to the Central Park Zoo on May 15. We had a great time. The children enjoyed watching the Seals, Polar Bears and especially the Penguins. We went to the Children’s Zoo and fed the cows, sheep and the alpaca. Parents were very happy and shared a wonderful time together. We also visited the Rainforest exhibition. We had the opportunity to watch beautiful birds and other species. We felt the warm weather typical from that area and for some minutes we were transported to that awesome part of the world. We thanked God for His wonders and for loving us and caring so much for us.

Fifty Four alumni attended our 1st Alumni Reunion Luncheon on Saturday, June 7 at 11:30. We also welcomed the following teachers who came to greet their former students: John Coymen, Chris and Sharon White, Jeff Querfeld, Yvette Jimenez, Mary Kemp, Michele Mena, Mary Carey, Jennifer Stahler, Isabel Rosario, Maria Wong and Vikki Kemp.

The theme for the luncheon was “Bloom where you are planted” reminding each of us that God can used us where He has placed us – whether it is in a college classroom or in the working world or in our own families.

Pictures were posted of each graduating class to be a reminder of those days at ECS. Following a delicious Italian feast, Miss Johansson reminded everyone of Evangel’s development from the first day ECS opened in September 1985. Michael Russo was recognized as being an alumni that was a student in Kindergarten the first day the school opened. Carolyn Marko, ECS Principal, brought us up to date with the present happening at Evangel. A power point presentation was shown of Evangel Christian School today. Pastor Johansson shared his vision for the future of ECS.

Pictures were taken during the luncheon and a special group picture at the end of the luncheon. A number of the alumni e-mailed or called me to say that they would have like to come but previous commitments for the day may it impossible. We are already looking forward to our Second Alumni Reunion to be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 –SAVE THE DATE.
