12th Grade Government – We are anxiously watching the 2008 presidential election. We are anticipating an interesting day on Tuesday the 4th! Though most of us are too young to vote, we are eager to see what kind of policies may be coming our way and patiently waiting for 2012 when we will all be eligible to register!

11th Grade Spanish this month, we are reviewing vocabulary words that deal with train travel. Students will also learn expressions they will need to know in order to order food in a restaurant. To do so, the class will be participating in many hands on and interactive activities such as: acting out skits using the vocabulary learned and having conversations with the teacher as well as fellow students.

In November we will be learning many new and exciting things in Spanish. We will begin by learning the names of school supplies used for studying in class and at home. The class will be able to identify them and know the proper Spanish translation. We are also going to learn about the clothes we wear, what they are called and how we can buy them at your local store. To better understand the lessons, the children will be participating in hands on activities such as: skits, projects and class conversations.

This month we are continuing with our Character Quest curriculum. Our main goal is to search the Scriptures to find out what character qualities God requires of us, and what we can do to achieve them. We will be talking about wisdom and courage and we are also going to view a movie called “The Ultimate Gift”, that deals with the importance of having good character and learning to grow through our life experiences.

Students continue working on checkbooks and check registers. This week they will also be taking a test on honesty. Not only do students learn practical skills in math but we also look at math from a Biblical standpoint. Students have learned and discussed what it is to be honest when dealing with money. We always have great discussions in class and students are learning from each other as well.

Students have been working with the number line looking at positive and negative integers. They just finished a quiz on adding positive and negative integers and will be moving on with subtracting both positive and negative integers. After a little bit of confusion, students now seem to be grasping the concept.

Prepositions, prepositions and more prepositions. It sounds a little redundant right.
Not to worry it is all leading to the writing process. This week we will be creatively writing prepositional descriptive sentences. We will also be investigating the way an author expresses their ideas through the effective use of language. For example Mrs. Emestica’s class is the best class in the entire school. Although there is some truth to that statement ( : it is very descriptive of our class. Students will examine the four elements of language: tone, metaphor, personification, and sensory language to determine what the author says and how he says it.
Exciting things are taking place in 5E. Bible is really taping into our hearts and relationship with Jesus. We just finished coming out of Egypt and are on our way to the desert. We are learning to be responsible for our actions and accountable for the things we do and say. Salvation does not come from mom or dad but only from Jesus. Our worship is really touching the heart of God our Father as He visits us with His presence every morning. In the famous words of Mrs. Emestica did you speak to him today???
