We just finished our chapter on Imperialism and its effects on the world. We specifically discussed the motives of Europeans as they went out and conquered South America, Africa, and Asia. Many of the students began to make connections between the present and the past, when they realized that the reason many of them speak the languages they do today are because of imperialism, (Puerto Ricans speaking Spanish or Brazilians speaking Portuguese). To finish this section we watched a movie called Last Samurai, the students were very excited by this. The movie illustrated the period in which traditional Japan met modern Japan and the conflict it created for the Japanese feudal society. We move onto Indian Independence next.

all_star_basketball_stars_rotating_hg_clrOur Middle School Boys had a phenomenal basketball season coming in both 2nd place during the regular season, as well as second place overall. The amount of growth and maturity that each player has developed throughout the season can be attributed to their hard work, determination, and attitude. This year I have been blessed with two amazing coaches, Mr. Peter Garcia & Mr. Gary Garcia. They have spent countless hours practicing, mentoring, and developing their athlete’s abilities and skills, all in an effort not only to get their athletes to be able to play High School Basketball, but for them to become better individuals. Congratulations Middle School Eagles on a great season.

smoke_signalsHave you ever thought what it would have been like to live 100 or 200 years ago? Well………1C discussed how it might have been, fun for a while, but soon we would miss all the things we have now. Sending messages to a friend or learning about the world was done so differently many years ago. We learned that instead of picking up the telephone or sending an e-mail or even writing a letter, people sent smoke signals, used stage coaches to carry mail or heard local news from the town crier. We all agree that it is faster to send a message for us, than it was for the Indians!!!

They also had to purchase products from other students and they had to figure out what their final cost would be after a percentage was taken off. It has been a great learning experience.
