Super Power
If I had a super power what would it be and how would I use it to help the world. This was the topic for our own book! One student had brain power and would help students learn better, one student had super human power that would repair devastations like in Haiti and save people. One child even found the solution for world hunger. All of their essays were innovative and creative. When asked, the students agreed that Mrs. Emestica’s super power would be to transport through time with a flick of my hand! Thank God for an imagination. Job well done 5E.

Learn From The Sansei
Right angels, obtuse, triangles, parallelograms we are having fun in geometry figuring out patterns and learning our angels. We went into the geometry matrix where I, Mrs. Emestica, was the geometry Sansei. I modeled the angels and the students guessed what they were in order to be able to move on to the next level. When 5E had mastered the different angels they were able to become a Sansei like me.

Know Your States
Did you know that the state flower of South Carolina, the Jasmine is poisonous, but at the same time is used in medicine? Did you know that the best blueberries come from Maine? The state of Georgia is known as the peach state but who knew it has seven other nicknames. Did you know that the franchise called Starbucks all started in Washington! As 5E did state presentations we all learned different interesting fact about each other’s states.

Regent Review
As we continue to review for the Regents, students had the opportunity to visit Philadelphia and see the sights! Instead of just reading about the Constitutional Convention, we were able to stand in Independence Hall and see the chair that George Washington sat in as he presided over the Convention! What a way to review!

The Greatest Generation
Students watched interviews with 80-year-old veterans from Easy Company, one of the most decorated companies during World War II. After hearing about their experiences, students journaled about why these men came to be known as the greatest generation. Many students wrote that we have much to learn from them today about bravery, sacrifice, camaraderie, and hard work.

Comparative Advantage
This past week students learned about comparative advantage and specialization by using our favorite sports figures. We learned that Babe Ruth had an absolute advantage in both pitching and hitting, but he specialized in hitting, because that’s what most benefited the team (comparative advantage).

Human Trafficking
Students discussed the heartbreaking issue of human trafficking: we focused on the supply and demand of trafficking, and talked about what we can do to stop it. For example, is it better to focus law enforcement efforts on the supply side (those who kidnap and sell others) or the demand side (the customers/buyers)? Students weighed in on their own opinions after studying the data and reading articles from various advocacy groups.

Celebrating our Athletes!
On Thursday, May 27th the gymnasium was decked out with beautiful lanterns, fishbowls on the tables, wonderful and unbelievable trophies. The students were dressed to the “t” and there was excitement in the air. All students received trophies and hoodies with their number and names on them. There were many special awards given…

Ronald McDonald Promotes Literacy
“Literacy” was the theme that was emphasized during Ronald’s visit to Evangel on Tuesday, May 19, 2010. The students sang songs, saw a puppet show and had a great time learning about “Book Time” and the love of reading. Ronald encouraged our students not to “play the day away, but to grab a good book and go on an adventure!” We are very grateful to McDonald’s for sending Ronald to our K-5th grade students to share how important it is to love reading and to read books with excitement!! We can’t wait until he comes to visit us again!!!!!! Thank you to the McDonalds Corporation for their generosity in choosing our school for their community outreach efforts.
Please visit our “Galleries” to view some wonderful pictures.
What Is Forensic Science
The Forensic Students will be constructing mystery stories to solve. Their mystery stories must include at least 3 chapter topics studied throughout the year. They will work with a partner and will do class presentations. They will also construct posters describing what Forensic science is.
