Keep on Learning

Students in computer class have been learning about Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Many of the students started these units feeling they pretty much knew everything about these programs. Many of them have been blown away by how powerful and complex these programs actually are.

Pixie and Twist

Middle School students in computer class have been using Recipes4success.com to develop their skills in using our art software, including Pixie and Twist, which are fun drawing programs. They created an initial project without any instruction, went through the tutorials and created new pictures as they learned. Finally, they were given choices for a new project to show how much they had learned. The results were amazing!

Pixie Fun

In upper elementary computer class, we have been learning the home row keys and have started reaching out for other keys. These students are on their way to being great typists. We have also had fun using Pixie, which is a fun drawing program (like Microsoft Paint, but better). They are loving improving their math and reading skills on Jumpstart as well.

I know my home row

In lower elementary computer class, we have been learning the basics of the keyboard and how to type. We have learned the home-row keys including A, S, D, F, J, K, L, and ;. I have been very impressed with how well the students are picking up on the basics. They are loving improving their math and reading skills on Jumpstart as well.

A Great Year

Math Classes from grades 8 – 11th completed a variety of art projects for math. Some students wrote poems, raps, and drew pictures about mathematical topics. Students also conducted an overall review of the academic year of 2009-2010.

We were able to reflect and discuss how we all have grown spiritually and naturally. We even laughed at each other and at the teacher. We discussed our funniest moments with each other in the classroom and out the classroom.

I pray that the Lord continues to bless all my students over the summer. They all have been blessings to me and it was a challenge and great joy to see them all progress according to his/her abilities.

I love all my students dearly and will continue to pray for them and their families as they move forward.

Congratulations

In December, 30 of our students entered writing pieces into the Association of Christian Schools International’s annual Creative Writing Festival. Two of those students, Alahna Dones (11th) and Angelie Cesario (8th), received marks of Superior (the highest possible) in the district level which qualified their poems to be sent to the regional level for adjudication.

We are proud to announce that at the regional level, Alahna Dones was awarded a Superior ribbon and Angelie Cesario was awarded with a mark of Excellent. Alahna’s spoken word poem entitled Freedom in Christ will be published in a book ACSI distributes to school’s across the country, while Angelie’s poem Tell, will be published online.

Congratulations to both Alahna and Angelie! Evangel is very proud of you!

Crunch Time

June was very exciting and time crunching month. From our McDonald’s luncheon to our Dinosaur week exploration to preparations for graduation, it has kept us on our toes. They enjoyed learning about the dinosaurs, reading about them and even getting to pick their favorite one. They learned that dinosaurs laid eggs like chickens and were very excited to receive an egg with a dinosaur. It has been my pleasure to have taught Pre-K 4 and been a witness to such amazing children. Enjoy your summer!

PreK 4 Students are the best

The month of May was a good one, and even with all the changes, the class persevered. We enjoyed our trip to Chuck E. Cheese. There was so much laughter and fun they were wiped out from all the excitement when we returned. The parents that joined us on this adventured enjoyed it as well.

Flag Day

June 14th is Flag Day! There’s so much we can learn about America just from studying the flag. Did you know that the 13 stripes stand for the 13 colonies and the 50 stars stand for the 50 states? The American Flag we see now is not always how it looked. We’re reading about how and why the flag has changed and what it all means.

Reading Room

We’re looking closely at the characters we see in our books. Understanding our characters can help us understand the story. There are some characters who remind us of people we know, or even ourselves! We’ve also read about characters that are very different from anyone we know. Reading a few books that have the same characters, like Junie B. Jones, is fun!
