Fall into Fall
Lower elementary has been practicing and reviewing their simple shapes and celebrating the Fall season with Autumn-themed projects. Thanks for helping Miss Kleinschuster decorate her door!
Harder than it looks
Beginning a business is hard work. My 11th graders are discovering it takes more than a good idea to get a business off the ground. We worked on inventory and potential client lists. We came up with a name, logo and slogan for our company. Next month we will take our start-up loans and set up a repayment plan as we begin making profit. My 11th graders have already begun selling items they have made and are discovering how difficult profit really is.

Circus time
So far this month, Pre-K students have been able to enjoy Literacy Day and the circus. They enjoyed the circus so much that they came back very excited. They were able to watch us teachers balance a peacock feather on our noses.

Learning our ABC’s
October has been a very informative month. The class has learned their letters from A – F. Our children have enjoyed playing games with our letter rugs. Each child had the chance to tell me about the letter and what it stood for, whether it was a fruit, vegetable, animal, etc. Out of 15 tiles, each child got five of his or her own. They have been a delightful bunch, and they are very willing to learn. They ask for more to do every day.

What do you like?
We began our first few weeks learning about the possible reasons why people behave the way the they do and think the way they think. We are now working on how to research some interesting things about our peers. Psychologists follow the same research methods as other scientists. Because of this, we are establishing this project using the psychological methods of research. Students are using the survey method to find out what students like and why.
Poetry Jam
We have begun our semester of poetry. We’re even studying the famous Anglo-Saxon epic, Beowulf. Students have been taught strategies and poetic theories to help them express their inner voice. Students have created four poems and are now preparing for the 3rd Annual Poetry Jam which is taking place on Tuesday, November 2 at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale. Ancient Rome
Moving from the imagination of Greece to the strength of Rome, the 10th grade has learned the history and culture of Ancient Rome. Students honed their writing skills by applying the great Roman orator Seneca to their own lives and arguing whether Julius Caesar should have been assassinated. In learning about the early Christians, 10th grade got to see the historical side of the New Testament and delve into the heresies of the early church. They also now understand the factors that go into a failing empire and how the fall of Rome was a turning point in Western Civilization.

The Far East
After studying the Ancient Near East, we moved into the Far East with Ancient India and China. Students learned how to compare and contrast by making Venn diagrams of Hinduism and Buddhism and different Indian rulers. We talked about the differences between eastern and western culture and what formative events and people could have caused those differences. Now the students are working in groups to tell the culture of the four ancient Chinese dynasties: Shang, Zhou, Qin, and Han.

Spanish Talk Shows
11th grade just completed their first group project. The student’s assignment was to create a talk show in Spanish. The students really displayed their various talents in Español. We had a great outcome. We had students record their talk shows then played them in class we had great laughs and really appreciated one another’s hard work.
