ECS Baseball Team TO Play at the Brooklyn Cyclone Stadium

Cinco de Mayo

While Don Quijote continues his adventures travelling the world with his squire, we begin our trip following the journey of a lad named Lazarillo de Tormes, a novel written in 1554. We will also be traveling to Mexico, a country that has in no doubt influenced ours, specifically in the US culinary arts. Tacos will be prepared and shared as we celebrate the rich and beautiful culture of Mexico. Journey with us into the city of Puebla, where we’ll celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 5th. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the celebration of Mexico’s independence, rather the famous and victorious battle of Puebla.

Flan

It is to no surprise that our favorite dessert recipe is: Flan

We have learned how to express ourselves using the imperatives à giving commands that vary depending on relationships and formalities. For example, while we may respectfully ask our parents to please eat, we may command our pets, or familiar friends by saying eat!

And eat we did… as recipe upon recipe we have shared our favorite foods and how to cook them. A packet of recipes was also created to be sent to a company that will convert our packets to actual books that would serve as a memento to all that we have learned.

Time has flown by

We had remained a while exploring the use of regular and irregular verbs in the preterit and imperfect past tense. Even after much practice, we realize there’s still much to learn regarding the past. This month we’ll learn and share about our favorite pastimes, such as video games, board games, and my personal favorite à dominoes.

Little Venice

Time has flown by! It has been a while since we’ve shared what we’ve learned in our Spanish class. Having been introduced to Spanish vocabulary names of clothing and parts of our face, we have also taken a brief trip to Little Venice a.k.a. Venezuela, where we’re drawn to the white beaches and warm climate, especially during this Spring weather. As we learn more on how to use Spanish articles, we’ll continue to explore Spanish verbs that end with ar, such as to work, to speak/talk, to dance, and to listen.

Es la primavera

We have done so much this last month and we are preparing to do so much more for our upcoming celebration in mayo. In all the grades we have been learning about the natives of Latin America. We have been discussing about the Mayan, Aztecs and Incas. We are moving on to discuss about Mexico and how it grew and became the beautiful country that it has become. We will discuss some of its influential people and the battle that took place in Puebla and that will lead into our grand FIESTA Cinco de Mayo.

11- Students are working hard in preparing for their regents. Students are heavily concentrated in studying and sharpening their skills that have acquired in their time in español.
