What would you do if your parents lost their jobs and they could not afford to buy you a gift for your birthday? Here what Second Graders said.

Julia Moises: I don’t need a gift because God gave her (mom) to me and she’s a gift to me. I should love and obey her. Even if they (parents) get mad they still love me.

Kayla DeJesus: My mom gave me a gift of loving me and helping me with my homework because she loves me forever.

Faith Alvarado: I don’t need a gift because she’s (mom) my gift.

Gabriel Fanelli: I don’t need a gift because the gift I have is my mom, my dad, and my sister.

Jillian Tobias: I don’t need a present because I have my mom and she gives me all the love.

Sophia Paskov: I don’t need a present because a toy breaks. My mom loves me and takes care of me. Toys can’t take care of me.

Joshua Lowe: I don’t need presents. My mom takes care of me and I love her. I help her a lot.

Joshua Macio: I don’t need a present because God gave me my family. Even if they die I still have them in my heart.

Jeremiah Cardi: I don’t need toys. I have a lot. The most important thing God gave me is my family.

Jaymie Franco: I don’t need presents. I have a lot. They (parents) always love me.

Christine Haberline: I don’t need a present. When I broke my leg last summer my mom still loved me. She didn’t get mad, she just helped me.

Vincent Tupacyupanqui: I don’t care if I don’t get a present. God gave me love for my parents. If they punish me, I know that they still love me.

Moises Leon: My greatest gift is God.

Danielle Christian: God gave me a present.

Jacob Torres: I don’t even want a gift. I love my mom even if she’s rich or poor, and I already have toys.

Jocelyn Delgado: I don’t need a present. I have a family that loves me, and if they didn’t love me, they won’t correct me or feed me.

Samela Fonseca: I don’t need a present because God gave me a family.

Armani Kennedy: I don’t need a present because I have a lot of stuff at my mom’s house. But, I would be sad if I didn’t get a gift.

Jasmine Pizarro: Even if she (mom) doesn’t get me one (a gift) I’m still happy because God gave me two arms and legs so that I can go and hug her, and God gave me to her.

Brian Poonai: I don’t need a present. God gave me to my mom and I came from her stomach, and I love her.

Nina Cruz: I don’t need toys because I have my mom’s love.

Isadora Macedo: If my parents don’t give me a present I really won’t mind because I have their love and that’s enough for me. They already give me so much.

David Metzger: I would feel sad, but I know they love me.

The Creative Writing Festival is an annual event held by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) where students can use their written talents to express themselves. Entries are first judged on a district level and those receiving a score of “Superior” (the highest possible) are then sent to the regional level.

Evangel had the honor of having three of our students sent to the regional adjudication. On the regional level, each of these three received marks of “Excellent” and therefore will be showcased in a Creative Writing Booklet published by the ACSI Northeast Regional Office.

The students are Jennifer Munoz of 4L, Lauren Vicuna of 8F, and Stephanie Reis of 11C. We are so proud of their hard work and congratulate them on their expressive writing!Mrs. Candelier

As the school year comes to an end, it’s always great to see where we have progressed and also see the areas we still need to improve on. In the beginning of the school year each student filled out a little card writing down any areas in their lives where they would like to see change. The time finally arrived to hand them back to the students! This was just a great way to see so many of them encouraged, knowing that God can change many things just in a matter of a few months. This year our students have learned the amazing power of prayer….that through Him all things are possible! My prayer is for each and every one of them to carry on what they have learned into their everyday lives even their summer vacation.

We have been working on vocabulary, verbs and comprehension of words used in the practice regents tests. Students are also working on how to write in Spanish so they will be ready for the regents tests.

These students are very motivated in class. They have shown me that they can do whatever I give them. They were given a practice regents test and they all did very well on the listening and comprehension part of the test.
