Students worked on a project using magazine pictures to create postcards. They wrote to a friend or family member about a vacation.

Students have been learning about summer and winter activities. The majority of the class loved talking about things they do in the summer compared to winter. So we decided to do a project in class by creating a vacation brochure. They made a brochure of know places and places they made up to create either the best winter or summer vacation.

This month in Social Studies we are learning all about government. This week we are focusing on the executive branch. Today 4L held elections for the President and Vice-President. The candidates made campaign posters and gave speeches. We sang patriotic songs and then voted by secret ballot. The winners were announced to a rousing rendition of Stars and Strips Forever and a downpour of confetti. Congratulations to our President Kayla Juarbe and Vice-President David Kemp.

During the 2008-2009 school year, the PTF held 3 Scholastic book fairs. As a result students were able to purchase award winning books at a very reasonable price, especially with the “Buy One, Get One Free” sale.
Our library obtained over $1200 in books and resources, and our elementary classes got free books.
The last book fair took place on June 4th and our eighth graders had a very special moment. As they looked around flipping pages and selecting books, they realized this fair was the last one before they go into high school. A group gathered together and started praying. It was a very emotional moment as we watched the students talk to their Abba Father.
We are so blessed to be in a school were even in the midst of a simple book fair, the name of our Lord can be glorified.

The superheroes have arrived in Room 204. Be on the look out for the superheroes that the Middle School Reading Lab students created. We have read about many types of different characters throughout this year, so for the final project of the year the students had to create their own superhero character. Those superheroes are now hanging around room 204. Stop by and you will see Superkid, Peace Chick, Rubberband Man, J-Blaze, CC Woman and many others.

The 3rd graders are so excited about Math this month Our Number Corner calendar markers for June show how to reduce fraction’s and make them into a decimal. We have a chart that we use to keep a record of the examples. They are very proud of this and show anyone that comes in what they know.

Evangel Christian School held it’s first International Week from May 4th-8th. To show the diverse cultures and nationalities our staff and student body represents, teachers and students researched one country their family is from. Students used time in computer class to look up information about their home country. During the week, students had select days in which they could bring food from their native land, dress in their flag’s colors, and wear native attire. During one class period, each student made presentations about the research they gathered. The highlight of the week was each staff and student coming down to our main floor to put a pin in the city that their family is from on a humongous world map. We invite you to see and celebrate all the cultures represented at Evangel and be sure to check out the pictures from this exciting week in our gallery.

ant_stealing_hotdog_hg_clrThis month our second graders are learning about ants. They are quite fascinated by them. They immediately noticed how the ants worked together to make tunnels in our class ant farm. They commented how quickly the work gets done when the ants work as a team. They also appreciate the fact that ants are strong because they eat their vegetables. No wonder the Word of God considers ants wise creatures in Proverbs 30:24-25 when it says, “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;” Our students now know that no matter how small we are, God has provided us with unique abilities and talents.

1C and 2B read the book, “Library Mouse” which talks about a little mouse that lives in the library and decides one day to write a book. As a complimentary activity 1st and 2nd graders made their own books about many different topics such as; “A camping trip,” “How to brush your teeth,” “Spot the dog,” and “A friend named Kimmy.” It was great to see such hard working new authors.
