How does the music make you feel?
As the year comes to a close, students have been working on expression in music. They have learned to express the way they feel when certain types of music come on. They have even looked at paintings from various artists who have drawn pictures while listening to music. The students have been able to listen to various pieces of music and create their own piece of art.
Life of Leadership
Students have been studying the life of Nehemiah. They saw how risky his life as a cupbearer to the king was, and how God showed him favor through this job, in spite of the danger. Many of the students had a misconception of leadership, in that, they thought it was all glamorous, with no trouble at all. Nehemiah was a perfect example of how leaders go through troubles, but can still overcome with God on their side.

Music Vocabulary
Students have been working hard on their music vocabulary. We have used various lessons to learn what exactly they are looking at when they are reading music. We have even made it a competition where students work together in groups to figure out what the musical terms are and what they mean.

Rhythm
Students have been focusing on rhythm. They have identified various types of drums as well as other instruments. Students have been able to come up and demonstrate beats on the drums. Another fun way the students have learned rhythm is through tennis balls. It is a great music method called, Dalcrose, where students apply the number of beats per measure with a particular pattern using a tennis ball. It has been an exciting month seeing students play instruments and learn about rhythm.

Leadership
Students are working hard learning about the price of leadership in the Bible. Students are beginning to see that being a leader is not just about being recognized but that there is a cost and sacrifice involved when God asks you to be a leader. Students used this time to go around to their pastors, teachers and other spiritual leaders and interview them on what qualities were important to them in being an effective leader.

Learning the Guitar
Students have been focusing on worship music. Throughout the year, they have been learning guitar. They now know enough to begin to play worship songs with chords. They played “I Am Free,” for their first worship song test. They are doing great and there have been about 5 students taking lessons privately as they want to play on the worship team next year.

ABA
Students have been working hard on learning about form. We have used a lot of dancing to illustrate form. The younger students learn simple AB form where they move one way during the A section and then they move another way during the B section. They not only learn to sing the music, but to move to it as well. As the student gets older, we have learned ABA form and ABACA form. They are having a great time of movement and singing in the class.

What a beautiful change
We watched ten caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. We observed the life cycle of a butterfly. The fact we found most interesting is that a moth mostly flies at night while butterflies prefer the daylight. We were all sad to see them fly away.

Look what is growing
We planted beans and wheat grass! The class is making sure that our plants survive and thrive and get all their basic needs: Water, Sunlight and Air. We learned that every part of a plant is made in a certain way (structure) so that it can do a certain kind of job (function). They all work together to keep the plant healthy and alive.

We Are Scientists
In research teams we observed the three states of matter. After we placed antacid tablets and water into film cans, we watched the tops POP off. This activity explored the states of matter: Solid (antacid tablet) liquid (water) and gas (visible bubbles and foam). This was so much fun. Once was not enough!
