Mission’s Trip is Huge Success!

This year’s Mission’s Trip took place from may 30th to June 4th, at our very own CAMP EVANGEL located in Byrne, New York!!! Yipeeee! The students had a great time working around the community and “lending a helping hand”. This year we reached out to the local area and offered assistance in many different areas: a local hotel where we cleaned, and painted, a local cemetery where we replaced rocks and cleared brush, a local preserve where we fixed trails and cleared brush and trees, local community buildings where we scraped and painted, a local church where we cleaned , gardened and painted.

What a great time the students had sharing the love of God with the community. There was also lots of time to spend at the Camp having a blast!!! Students went kayaking, rode golf carts, walked up the mountain at night using light from torches, went to a local cave, camped outside and had huge campfires each night will sharing what the Lord had done.

Celebrating God’s Goodness

This year’s Spring Celebration took place on Monday, May24th and was a mixture of Elementary, Middle and High School students. Students performed skits, dramas, songs, and dances unto the Lord. What a great celebration it was and everyone was blessed – even the performers. Thanks to all for working so hard and glorifying God with the use of our talents.

Butterflies are Free to Fly

In conjunction with our insect unit, 4th grade has been learning about the life cycle of butterflies. In addition to our Science textbooks we have been observing actual butterfly larvae in our classroom! We watched as baby caterpillars ate and grew larger, turned into golden chrysalis’, and eventually emerged as beautiful butterflies.  This week we released these amazing creatures that God has created back into their natural environment and watched as they flew into the sky. It was awesome!

Please see “Galleries” for some wonderful pictures!

Season Champions

baseball_hg_clr

As the season approached us, the excitement for baseball’s return to Evangel was so strong that it was hard not to expect great things. And as the head coach, I can say our Eagles did accomplish great things. We came into the season with many questions about how we would look as a team and how the competition would be in our league. We finished in first place (Season Champions) with an 8-2 record. In the semi-finals we fought hard and received 2nd Place by an extra inning game to Brooklyn Friends. To add to our teams success, our captain Ronald Barillas was honored with the league MVP award.

In our teams very first meeting,  I told them I was looking for a group of guys who would help me build the foundation to a successful high school baseball program that honors the Lord. As I look forward to the upcoming season, I say proudly that Evangel Christian School is now running a respected baseball program that gives all the glory to God.

Giving all the glory to Jesus Christ,

Coach Berrios

NFL Running Back Blesses Evangel

Former Running Back, Lee Rouson, a two time Super Bowl Winner with the New York Giants was a guest speaker at our Middle School and High School Chapels. Lee shared his journey of faith and overcoming hardships. THrough it all, Lee remained faithful to the call of God in His life. Our students were inspired by his story of Hope and Triumph in Christ. Lee also emphasized that eventhough he has been tremendously successful, he identifies himself as a child of God and gives all the glory to Him. Mr. Rouson has been anexample to our children that “With God all things are possible.” We are so thankful to him for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and speak with our students.

Super Power

If I had a super power what would it be and how would I use it to help the world. This was the topic for our own book! One student had brain power and would help students learn better, one student had super human power that would repair devastations like in Haiti and save people. One child even found the solution for world hunger. All of their essays were innovative and creative. When asked, the students agreed that Mrs. Emestica’s super power would be to transport through time with a flick of my hand! Thank God for an imagination. Job well done 5E.

Learn From The Sansei

Right angels, obtuse, triangles, parallelograms we are having fun in geometry figuring out patterns and learning our angels. We went into the geometry matrix where I, Mrs. Emestica, was the geometry Sansei. I modeled the angels and the students guessed what they were in order to be able to move on to the next level. When 5E had mastered the different angels they were able to become a Sansei like me.

Know Your States

Did you know that the state flower of South Carolina, the Jasmine is poisonous, but at the same time is used in medicine? Did you know that the best blueberries come from Maine? The state of Georgia is known as the peach state but who knew it has seven other nicknames. Did you know that the franchise called Starbucks all started in Washington! As 5E did state presentations we all learned different interesting fact about each other’s states.

Regent Review

As we continue to review for the Regents, students had the opportunity to visit Philadelphia and see the sights! Instead of just reading about the Constitutional Convention, we were able to stand in Independence Hall and see the chair that George Washington sat in as he presided over the Convention! What a way to review!

The Greatest Generation

Students watched interviews with 80-year-old veterans from Easy Company, one of the most decorated companies during World War II. After hearing about their experiences, students journaled about why these men came to be known as the greatest generation. Many students wrote that we have much to learn from them today about bravery, sacrifice, camaraderie, and hard work.
