Go JV Eagles
On Thursday, February 7th the #1 ranked Evangel High Eagles took on the number #2 ranked Staten Island Academy Tigers for the PSAA Boys Junior Varsity Championship. Lead by junior captain Michael Tolone and sophomore Samuel Garcia the Eagles jumped to a 14-6 half time lead. Coach Racoma’s words of, Defense wins Championships could be heard resonating throughout the gym. We need to be tougher defensively. Box out, rebound and make the smart pass, were his words during one of the time outs. Center Jesse Gomez and Timothy Bayonne fought to box out and secure rebounds, while forward Wesley Pratt and guard Nigel Giddens hustled to close out the shooters. The defensive intensity from both teams was remarkable. Neither team was willing to give up any points. But in the end, the Eagles came out ahead by a score of 39-29.
Show and Tell
Letters and Sound Presentations, in other words show and tell. Each week we have a day that each child can show and tell about something special that they bring from home that has the beginning letter and sound of the week This week we are on the letter J and the children brought in a jump rope, jewelry, picture of the jungle, a jaguar toy and a joke. When one student told a joke all the other children began to laugh and each one had a turn.

Monster-Talk
This was a fun lesson as the students learned about syllables. Each one clapped out their name count how many syllables are in their names. The fun part about it is that we made funny monster sounds then put it together to make a complete word. This was a great lesson to teach reading readiness.

Detectives
Have you seen the Gingerbread Man? Pre K 4 and I baked some gingerbread cookies. When we went to take them out of the oven they were gone. Pre K 4 became detectives as we looked all around the school for him. All he left was a gum drop everywhere we looked. Finally after nap time he came back and fell fast asleep on the desk. This lesson was connected across the subjects of reading and math. The children had a great time trying to figure out where the Gingerbread man was and had more fun eating him.

Intelligent Comment Points
In order to stimulate more class discussion, I started giving Intelligent Comments points. Each time a student answered a question related to World History or current events, I noted this down and every few weeks I would enter into the gradebook either a homework grade for class participation, or for the top two or three contributors to the class a quiz grade. Since it is so important for a Social Studies class to have input and feedback from students, I found that this was a good way to get more students involved in more lively discussion of the topics we study in World History.

Enlightenment Age
Students in the Fall took the role of philosophers and scientists during the Enlightenment and presented to the class information about their lives and contributions to mankind. By the end of this activity there was more understanding of Rousseau’s Noble Savage and the Natural Rights of Man of John Locke.

Student Debates
Students have been debating current event topics, especially those relating to the presidential race in the Fall of 2012 between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. As the news changes, we also have taken up the issue of Gun Control and reasons for violence in U.S. society. As the year continues, topics of interest to the students will continue to be looked into.

Federalists
The most interesting project we did so far in our study of U.S. History was to have groups take the role of Federalists and Anti-Federalists. After getting in groups the students worked on deciding what were the strongest arguments for and against the ratification of the U.S. Constitution.

We Have Fun Together
Our class went on a trip to the pumpkin farm and we each picked a pumpkin, and rode on the school bus.
When we go to the library we listen to great stories. We all prayer together, have snack and lunch together too. We are leaning so much in Pre K 3. Thank You Jesus.

Songs Help Us Remember
We pick out puzzles shapes and colors, we know so many now. We have magnets with our alphabet letters on them and we sing songs to help us remember them. We trace them and color them too.
In class we play games to teach us things that are the same and things that are different.
