5E will continue to borrow two books each week. They will borrow one nonfiction so they can learn new information about a topic they are interested in and the second book will be one of their choosing. We will also be working on identifying the parts of a book. They will be introduced to the Dewey Decimal System of classification so that when they need to find a book it will be easy for them to locate it. We will also be talking about God’s mercies, which are new everyday. We will be praying to the Lord that he may give us a thankful heart.

The fourth grade picked the theme of animals. They will be borrowing a weekly book about any animal that they may want to read about. In reading about all the different creations that God made, we will look at how God created us all differently and how we are all uniquely special to Him. We will see how awesome, and omnipotent God is to have created all the different creatures with such unique characteristics, and thus praise and thank him for all his blessings.

The third grade class is continuing to enjoy the privilege of borrowing two books per week at the library. We are following a different theme for every month. For the month of November they picked the theme of Christian literature. For this entire month they will be reading Christian books such as, “The Legend Of The Three Trees,” “You Are Special,” “Because I Love You,” which are all titles by Christian authors that reinforce great morals and characters. We will also read books about bible characters. We will be focusing on these books when we think of all the great things that we have to thank the Lord for providing us with; especially during this special time of Thanksgiving.

Students just completed Christmas Factor trees for the upcoming holiday season. They have also been working on Greatest Common Factor. They will continue by working with fractions and putting them in the simplest form.

Students are continuing their work on mean, median, mode and range. They are now applying this knowledge to various graphs. Some of the graphs they will be working on are line, double bar and histograms.

Can you imagine staring at a picture of a ship and sea, when all of a sudden it comes alive. You are swept into the ocean on a large wave. The waves a surging all around you and you can barely stay afloat. When all of a sudden you a rescued and pulled to safety onto the same boat you saw in the picture. This is what happened in the story “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” by C.S. Lewis. The 5th Grade Reading Lab class has just finished this story and experienced life in Narnia with Lucy and Edmond.Reading is fun and the more you read the more you learn.

In Pre-K 4 we do crafts to reinforce our academic concepts. We painted fuzzy yellow ducks, made fuzzy fish, orange pumpkins, and colored and decorated an “Ii”. We colored horses and houses and made big brown gorillas. Yes, we are busy, busy, busy in Pre-K 4.

As usual, I like to teach silly songs. Some songs we are learning include “I’m a Lonely Little Petunia in an Onion Patch”, “Miss Mary Mack”, “Five Little Speckled Frongs” and “Tommy Thumpkin”.

This is Miss Holden and I am so happy and blessed to be back in my Pre-K class. Thank you Miss Herrera for all you did while I was gone. Working with me are Miss Jasmin Doman and Miss Cherry Priskila. Miss Cherry is new to Evangel and to PreK-4. Both ladies are a blessing to the class and to me.
Recently the 10th graders were able to go on a field trip to the Cloisters museum in New York City, a Medieval art museum. The Cloisters is a museum made up of real architecture from churches and monasteries in Europe, with art that dates from the 800’s A.D. to 1500’s A.D. The students really enjoyed seeing some real pieces of art and analyzing how they illustrated art from that time period. This was a great culmination activity at the end of our Middle Ages unit. We moved onto the Renaissance shortly after that and have been discussing the new ideas, which had greatly shaped and continue to shape our ideas about the world around us. During this time period we have been able to discuss the Protestant Reformation and the impact that has had on our faith. The students have been able to engage this topic and realize how their own faith was influenced by the ideas of Luther and Calvin.
