Looking back, we see a man with a vision – Pastor Johansson and his desire to minister to the children in the community through a Christian school. Evangel Christian School opened in September 1985 with forty-three students in the Pre3 through Second Grade classes and Mrs. Marie Delena, an experienced educator as the first principal. Parents and staff were eager to begin a new chapter in their lives and the lives of their children. There was a look of anticipation reflected on each face as the students entered the building.
As the years have passed, the school grew adding grades each year with the first Eighth Grade graduation celebrated in June 1991. The school outgrew its first location and moved to its present location on Crescent Street in February 1989. In 2000, another new milestone was set with the adding of a Ninth Grade class, the beginning of the Evangel Christian High School. In 2003 the first students graduated from the High School. The school has grown to a present enrollment of over 500 students.
From the first graduating class in 1991 until the present students have been sent out having studied God’s Word, learned their need to pray, and have been encouraged to commit their lives to the Lord.
